couple newbie questions

ok well i was riding my r today around my farm just light ride to see how it was torque bolts and what not. I got a couple questions.

1) my bike smokes like crasy when its warming up but its good when its warm is that normal? my other 2 strokes dont smoke anywhere near that amount

2)my bike wont move until its super warm and bogs until its super hot and i mean like 5-10mins of high idle. once warm runs like a champ

3)I think my bike seems lean but my jets say otherwise, I have a 38A/S with 50 pilot 180 main air screw half turn out. with only 1/4 turn out i should move up a size on the pilot kinda odd i wouldnt think my bike would need so much pilot. 180 is rich on the main but when its hot its smooth 4th gear wheelies.

how do you guys get your pipe to stop leaking. my stupid flange came with o rings that are lose and so when the pipe goes on they just get chopped up so i had to put some banshee o rings on there with a crap load of rtv and still its leaking a little bit.

sounds like you need a rebuild. compression check is in order.

but I just rebuilt it and i have 170lbs of compression its a 19cc dome not an 18 my bad

odd. mine didnt somke much even before i needed a rebuild.

i rejetted the bike with a 48 pilot and 178 main and it idles alot better and runs better up top. got a little hesitation in the midrange im gonna adjust the needle clip today.

but after i changed the jets i let it loose a little and man this thing flys. alot of power all throughout and amazing handleing i almost want to build a dune 250r now.

What needle do you have in the carb? I have the same carb and i had a hesitation in the same spot i struggled with until i tried a needle with a leaner mid setting, the bike pulls smooth all the way through. If you have the correct needle you should be in the middle position or no more than one clip off up or down.

im not sure what needle I have I will find out when I open it apart. I was just going to go up 1 on the needle and ride it and see where it goes. then do that again until it gets better or worse.

As stated on keihin tuning guides, if you move more than one groove from center it's a sign of having the wrong needle.....I went through many needles before hiting the sweet spot....I can pull my needle and check if you continue to have problems.

DGH is a good needle.
