It just depends on what you want to do with it. What kind of riding do you do?

All types of riding pretty much, i like going in the woods on the mountain, on the coal hills and dirt roads. i like the power of my r but a 440ex might be more suitable and better on gas

IMO I would keep the R. But thats up to you. I had a EX but traded it for an R and have not regretted it once.:D

there is a huge difference in a regular 400 and a 440.

my 440 will do 70mph in 4th gear, a regular 400 even a 416 I dont think can do that.

I would probaly keep the 250r if I had one though.

just my .02 cents.

It was a 440 with a Hot Cam and full HMF exhaust. It did have alot more torque than the 400. But to be honest with ya i probably put about 1 hour on that motor before i traded it for my R.;)

Dollar for dollar you'll get more hp out of an R then an EX. What's the condition of your R? Any internal work? I can say without a doubt I pick up a nice R before another 400ex but it really boils down to personal choice.

I have both and personally wouldn't get rid of either. As far as a 440 being a downgrade to a 250r I'd have to say definitely not. That's a tough decision I'm glad I don't have to make. Either way they're both great bikes in their own classes. Good Luck and Enjoy.

I dont know if my r has internal work, i bought it how it is, all i can say is that it has pipe and silencer and some aftermarket headlights, plastics and rims.

i had a nicely built 440 and id say keep the r. think of it this way, the 440 blows u have a totally junk motor, trust me ive seem this one 3 times.... you blow your r it will cost half the price to rebuild and it will be just as powerfull i think as a 440. i wasnt really impressed with a 440, but then again ive had my ltr450 for a month and im already putting money into making that faster. lol :D
