I went to the drag strip for the first time with the ex, and put down some runs.
I have never done the drag racing thing before so I’m not sure how I did. This was just practice and I was just doing it for fun so don’t expect greatness on my first time out.
The track was deep loamy sand and 300’ long. The first table is with my regular mx set up with used hole shots and 9 lbs in the rear tires.. The second table is with new hole shots and only 3 lbs in the rear tires.
With the mx set up it was easer to keep it strait but when I went to the new tires and dropped the air it was much harder to go strait but the times went down a bit and the speed came up some.

DUDE.....for using MX tires Id say you did great!!!!!

SLABORDE's 400ex ran 4.6 in 300ft, but that was on alcohol, drag chasis, sand tires, wheelie bar. "full drag quad"

for a mx quad you did good.

Pretty good times.

I ran a 5.5 with a 2.4 60' at 59 mph in the 300'

I ran on 18'' mx tires as well in sand.

If you could drop your 60' by a second( easy with paddles) you could shave 1.1 secs or so on the end of the et.

Did you wheelie hard alot or just spin? I wheelied every run.

Also for you might want to launch in second gear instead of first not sure if you were or not.

Your RT's are good. Mine runs my best was a .965

I only ran 4 times. Wish I could have ran more.

humm whats the differ. in sand drag vs all out drags at the strip. its the same thing wright ? you go off the lights and you try to beat they other rider to the end of the track. but that is some good times you put down. keep it up its a blast to us and we run at a drag strip. just this week we ran a cbr 600 f3 . he beat us by a tire we had him til the last 10 feet .

Ok thanks guy’s, being that I’m a mx’er and not a drag racer I have no idea if my times are good or not but they do seem to fairly contestant though.
Flyjum: I did use second to start in just like I do in mx and yes it did want to wheelie a lot but if I got too far up on the tank to keep the front down it would just seem to spin to much.
The only reason I went out and give it a try is that all my regular buds have LTR’s and they are all broke down at the moment. Lol!! So it was something deferent for me.
I’m sure the times would go down with some paddle tires and some more practice.
And maybe play with the gearing some.

Ericcrip: the deference between dirt and asphalt would be traction, I think asphalt would be more consistent then dirt.

My set up
416…..12/1 JE piston on 105 race fuel
P&P
Stage 2 hot cam
450 carb with 195 main jet
14t front 36t rear sprocket

Which is my mx set up and I would not change anything just to drag race.
Now to be fair this motor has a minimum of 200 hours on it so it’s starting to get tired.
I’m sure a fresh set of rings and a valve job would do some good as well.
But it was fun for the day and it was something deferent and I enjoyed it as well.

If any of you are in the Houston area then go to the S.O.R.P. web site and show up at the next race, we would love to have you. Dee of Rage has built a very nice drag strip in Splendors TX for us to race on so come on out and lets see what you got!

Thanks again and keep the comments coming!

Good some peopple use 1st gear to start it makes it wheelie worse.

Yea with paddles you could lean way forward and get good traction.

Also the diffrence in sand is you have ALOT more drag on your tires and alot less traction. Also the sand changes every run people dig ruts with the dragsters and it makes it hard to keep it inline. You ran faster they 95% of the 450's when I went. Very few ran faster then a 7. Almost all the bikes are banshees are the strip here. Everyone kept asking me if my little tires hook I was like hell no lol. Fastest bike run was a 4.6 by a gsxr1100 400ex with a wheelie bar that I saw. Someone said a turbo banshee ran a 4.4 but I did not see it run but I talked to the guy he said it was runing 24psi of boost and 125rwhp so I bet he did.
