Over the last 2 months i have noticed that my 400ex is dieng/Quiting when i get really hard on the whoops. i was wondering if its in the carb or electrical .. it feels like its out of gass and then when i slow down it runs fine again..

Shortly after i bought mine it was doing the same thing. On biger jumps to,right? I's say you have some trash in your carb.Probably in the bowl or jets.Take it apart and clean it out with some good carb cleaner. That should solve it.

yea def take off the float bowl on the bottom of the carb and then spray some cleaner in there and check the floats. sounds like they are sticking closed when you bounce.

i am having the same problem.when i jump table tops and i try to gas it in the air it acts as if it were out of gas. as soon as i hit the ground it takes off normal.mine is only 2 months old.

I had the same problem hitting any bumps when I had my Recon. I took the carb apart and found that I had a little piece of grit in the carb bowl. I cleaned it out and no more problems (for a while). I found my self taking the carb apart over and over again and cleaning it out. I finally ended up picking up a $1.50 inline fuel filter at my local dealer. I never had to clean the carb out again.:D

This is a common problem. Anybody who rides over rough terrain very fast should have this problem. You need a Bog box. Its a black box with foam in it that tees into your carbs air lines. It allows the carb to burp without loss of fuel. Runs about $25-$30. Mo:p

I had the exact same problem w/ my 400.
When I hit bumps/woops it bogged down till it almost stalled.
All I did was rejet and it has not done it since.

I had the same problem with mine when it was new in 99. Must just be a bug that just has to age itself out.

I think it goes in front of the ATF injecter.

Its called a PC vent box. They tee into breather lines from carb and it usaully is mounted in the airbox. Very small and very lightweight. But extremely effective. Mo:D

just a thought you could be hitting the rev limiter if your running full throttle and getting air born it would feel like the engine was out of gas then when the rs come down it would run fine till you hit the rev limit again but a fuel filter is a must to keep dirt out of the carb:ermm:
