A well maintained 04/05 Honda with the updated crank bearings is probably going to be your best bet.

I wouldn't base your decision on warranty. The reason they only warranty them for 30 days is because they know most people are going to be racing them. Most people aren't going to go out and buy a $8000 "race ready" quad and trail ride.

With that being said, I heard that the KTM's have a solid motor. The only problems I have heard of were electrical, after people start hacking the wire harness for various reasons.

Just about all of the newer model 450s are pretty reliable in my opinion. You definitely can't go wrong with honda though. My 400 has been the most reliable thing with a motor i've ever owned.

Not sure. I've never owned, or even rode one. :p

They need to be changed more often than most models because they don't hold much oil. Both the engine and transmission side take less than a quart. I changed my engine oil and filter every ride, and the transmission every two rides.

the most reliable race quad is the one that is taken care of....

If u will put alittle in what u got u will have a bike as equal to an 450. Add a big bore kit, hot cam, jet kit and maybe even try using different sprocket. I have 3 400ex's and i will put any of them against a 450 anyday. Atleast doing this u want be putting out around 8000 for a new bike that only has a 30 day warranty and dont have to pay an extra 800 or so for extended warranty that a dealer dont stand behind half the time anyway.

My best engine so far has been my '06 yfz motors... 3 years (mx, trail and ice racing) of racing without a rebuilt. Never adjusted the valves... The motor still ran decent when I rebuilt....

'04 yfz- transmission lastest 2 months, topend went before 40hours..

400ex -was a reliable until Mod the motors.... I'm pretty sure a 400ex making 50hp would end up being a ticking time bomb..

Ktm 505- Oil changes and air filter every ride... transmision seams weak.. 1 month of riding and pops out 2nd ... I don't this quad at all..

450r- 4 out 6 in are group have have need complete rebuilts with low hours on them.... on top of that, there down on hp compared to the Yamaha ( only bolt-on motors)

I heard the kfx 450 cranks is weak
and the ltr transmission are weak
its seems like can-am never stay togather....
