how often do you need to change the oil in the kfx450 ?
is it a reliable bike ?

its reliable but change it often as with any other 450. they r a race bike and r high maintenece

From the testing I have done, most oil breaks/shears down after about 10 hrs on the oil, so for me 10 hrs max.

10 hours is about 1 tank ?

I mostly drag race...and that will take its toll on the oil, you may have better longevity.....only testing would tell you, but the way I see it, changing the oil is cheap to protect your engine which can go a long way down the road.

I race mx and I change my oil every moto, but if I just go out and mess around, every 10-15 hours.

Yea...for me, I only ride on the weekends and it gets changed every other weekend usually at the 6-8 hr mark.

i usually dont have like 3 hours of ride time on mine, i change it alot. but i have never once had a problem with the motor. and ive owned it for 2 years and race mx

If you just ride lightly and cruise around then you should be fine with 10 hours in between oil changes.

I was having to change mine before or after every good ride until I switched to 15w50 Mobil 1.

Now I can run it until it starts looking dark in the sight glass.


This engine is mechanically very reliable and long lasting as far as internals. But it is just flat out very hard on oil.
