Never tried Pep's, but I have tried Elka's, revalved/resprung Elka's, Fox, and Motowoz. My favorite are by far the Motowoz, everytime I ride the quad they are on I am amazed at how well they work. Jim over at Motowoz is great to work with also and very helpful. Figure you can't beat them for the price and service.

arnt the motowoz shocks still kinda expensive? from what Ive seen there really isn't that much difference in price for similar options. correct me if im wrong but that's what I found.

posted something in the susp section for you...

I came from fully adj pb1's to motowoz... They outpreform the pb1's hands down...

Jim knows his stuff in the big bike market, not just the mini market where he is dominating...

which one is better is up to YOU. Chances are if you asked the question you are leaning towards one or the other. Go ahead and get what you are leaning towards. I dont really know much about motowoz other than the name sounds kind stupid, but from what I have read they seem to be good. PEP are also very good shocks, so you probly wont go wrong either way. Ride one for a year then try the other out and YOU decide.

yea I was leaning toward pep becuase I know alot of people who use them and love them and sf racing is 1.5 hours away so i don't have to ship the shocks to get redone. also I'm 14 and want to buy once. I've been hearing a lot of good things about motowoz but I might go pep becuase with a campany who has been around awhile there are just so many people that like them if that make's sense

Yeah, and "PEP" is perfectly normal. haha

Since you are undecided, I would call both and talk to each of them. Ask questions and see who you like better. I think you would be happy with either set, but I still vote Motowoz!

We have ridden the elka factory, fox evol dsc, and motowoz, the motowoz is by far the better ride, and their service is 2nd to none, great people.

Performance engineered products? yeah it sounds way better.
idk I've never ridden or even seen a set of motowoz up close so I wouldnt know. If it was me I would go PEP just cuz you already know its a great product. The motowoz look nice but what seperates it from everything else?
You need to talk to someone who knows a lot about suspension and will tell you the main differences between the shock to help you decide which you would rather have.

how much does the the top of the line motowozgo for? and are the options the same as pep pb1?

motofreak2772

You pay an extra 500 for the race proven quality anyone can respect. Plus there are more PEP specialists that you can go to to work on your stuff. Im not saying that motowoz is bad, I would have to ride them for myself. I dont know much about shocks so likie I said I would love to hear what a specialist has to say. I liked that one post a while back where there were guys comparing the differences between shocks. I dont think motowoz were really mentioned back then so if someone would like to chime in and compare PEPs and Motowoz Im sure everyone would appreciate it. Everything from the quality of the materials, the adjustabilty, and even the oil used. PEP has always been the best money can buy so it is hard to compete but if motowoz does perform as well at a cheaper cost than they will sure to be the next big thing.

Top of the line Motowoz is $1,349, includes compression, rebound, preload, and crossover adjustment. Couldn't find a lot of info on PEP, but it looks like the PB1's are the top of the line, the place I found them said starting at $1,995. Looked like the same adjustments as the Motowoz.

As I have said never owned PEP's, but have had Elka's, Fox, and now Motowoz. I have found the Motowoz to be just as good as a shock quality wise as any of them, I would expect the same if you compared them to PEP's. Last year I raced a 1,000 mile race over three days, we were racing anywhere from 7 to 9 hours a day in close to 100 degree heat. The Motowoz shocks took all we could throw at them and never had a problem. That sold me on them right there.

anyone whoknows wayne from pep would believe me in saying that he knows just about everything there is to know about any type of suspension. talk to him and see what he thinks about motowoz.the only thing that might be a problem is because motowoz is so new and they havent had a lot of buyers in the 450 classes, he might not have very much experience with them.

Asking a companies direct competition about what they think of the others product will not get you a very straight forth answer about how the products are...

Jim has a wealth of knowledge about shock setup, I would say he is on the level with Wayne, but dont believe me... Call both of them and pick their brain a bit... Make your own opnion about what each of them know. Good luck getting ahold of Wayne... Jim will at least call you back

Jim builds all the parts to the shock (minus the springs, seals, shims and std hardware) in his machine shop... This means he controls the quality from the raw material to the finished product... What control does PEP have over what they are getting?

if you cant get ahold of Wayne call SF racing and talk to Seth hes great with shocks also and a PEP certified tech hes a great person to talk to

PEP uses alot of parts from works if I remeber correct.

They used to be Works shocks with diffrent custom valves and diffrent rezzis. Things are probably diffrent now though.

I would not be afraid to rock the Motowoz. They are very good shocks, I rode Jim's stuff for 2 years with nothing more then oil changes. never blew a seal,a line, nothing.rode the sack right off them shocks, and they performed great!

very different now... use shim stack instead of check ball

flyjum

Yea I thought so.

Works are not bad shocks just not really mx race shocks. The parts last along time I have no problem with them if they use parts from them( cant make everything in house cheaper and better to outsource some of the parts). Also I think they use shim stack and check ball with spring. The blackwidow shocks are nice and decently cheap.

What work did m@ultech do on your quad devin?

I had my engine built by them along time ago. Still runs great not sure why people bash on them and what not.

I run the Fox on all 3 450r's. Have tried other brands but wouldn't run anything except Fox!

We run the new koq racing pro-comp long travel a-arms, with motowoz shocks all around, on all of our team quads, the new design helps alot with cornering, and bump steer, and jim at motowoz has a very good shock that he designed for us to run. Its by far the best set-up we have ever run.

I thought the fox's tended to roll a bit too much for my liking in the corners on the 450r. I have loved them on all my other race quads. PEP and a GOOD set of Elkas with a Laeger LT front end was really nice. I have heard of alot of guys running 04-05 spindles and a-arms on the 06+ because the geometry and steering is better on the 04-05 but the motor is much better on the 06+

06-22-2010, 12:10 PM
it would be on a 04 and it seems that fox's are overrated and I've heard nothing but good from people with pep stuff.

Lquad71
06-23-2010, 09:40 AM
if it is on an 04 and you are going to get a rear end...try and get an 06+ swinger with a good linkage..the performance is huge compared to the stock 04 stuff with an aftermarket shock.

I have Motowoz on my 450 and love them.Jim is the best.I was having a hard time getting my suspension dialed in as i never had such an adjustable set up.Needless to say i talked to him while i was at the track on Sunday and got it all dialed in.Try that with PEP or any other company.:eek2:

I don't think they are overrated. It all comes down to setup.
