whats up guys i just bought a 2003 400ex for 500 bucks with a bad motor (trans is gone and needs rebuilt top end) im thinkin about just buyin a crashed up street bike and swapping over the motor rather than spending the same amount of money for a 400ex motor with this being said my major concern i have with this project is how to mount the swing arm because the way it goes threw the motor has anyone on here ever done it pics and details would be great

There is more to it then that.. You will need to make new engine mounts, gusset the frame in the spots that needed. Then find a place to mount the radiator ect.. Will def be badazz rig but will take a good bit of work and fabbing. I thought of doin it but after thinking real hard I opt'd not to.. Good luck if you do though. :)

theres going to be alot more cost in the swap then just buying a motor. your going to have to make new frame rails and buy alot of random stuff as well as things like custom sprockets.

dude just fix the motor. Unless you wanna spend at least 5 grand to have a crappy street bike hybrid. They are nuts when they are built right, but there is so much more than people think that goes into them. The 400 frame is probably one of the worst to use for a street bike engine anyways. You would have to start with something bigger, and preferably something with a radiator.

Trust me, I'm working on one, it's not worth the trouble unless you wanna have one bad enough

ive seen one of these in person built rather cheaply and it was really kool. but these guys were engineers they also in there spare time built lift kits for everything they drove as well. so unless your very good with this sort of thing its going to be most likely a death trap.

I'm in the middle of a similar project, R6 in to an LTR.

Here are the pictures so far (not very good quality, sorry).

It is a ***** load of work but it'll be well worth it. Basically a whole new mid section of frame, engine mounts, lots of triangulation, custom exhaust, under seat fuel cell etc etc!!!!!!

huuuuge custom sprocket

not forgetting the custom frame jig before you even make the first chop!!

It is a huge amount of work, don't let anyone tell you otherwise and it has ALOT of hidden costs and you really need to be handy with the glue gun and scissors!!

Go away. what? You make yourself look like an idiot because your offended I said your project was a wasted of time, I called out your mistake and you edit your post trying to make me look dumb...I even went with it because I see how pathetic it made you look and actually felt bad, and you still try to insult me.

I wish my parents loved me as much as yours must love you.

No offence taken at all, you couldn't offend me no matter how hard you try, I just think the kid would appreciate some constructive i/p not silly little thoughts that pop in to your head. My parents do love me and if yours don't then that is your problem.

i've seen an r6 and r1 in a 400ex and it just won't look right. the gas tank is like 6in higher which looks tarded as hell not to mention your plastic won't line up at all it's just plane ugly imo. but like mentioned if it were a raptor frame or a bombardier i even seen a banshee done but i think the 400ex as a platform is just not a good idea. i'm all for a r6 in a quad but not in a 400ex.

I'm all about joking around. but if you dont have anything nice to say about a project someone is doing, then dont reply. people post stuff on here to show it off becasue they are proud of it. they dont want people talkin crap about what they are doing. putting a big motor in a quad is something he really wants to do and is proud of it, or he would do it. if we were all the same. life would be kinda boring. let him have fun with what he's doing in life with out negative comments.

You should sell ex frame /other parts it has and get bigger/better frame Ex frame just too small and break VERY easy! And yes those hybreds look way too funky for me you cant trail ride those things they look like they,ll fall apart(most ive seen) !There are some really sweet one,s but those guys spent thousand to get right!

Yes, it IS a total waste of time. I'm kinda tired of seeing the over extreem hybrid stuff. There has been dam near every kind of motor put in a quad frame. I don't see need to waste a perfectly good frame unless it was bent to high hell, busted up, etc... Total waste...

When it's an aftermarket frame, or a bike that is still being made, the frames aren't being wasted, because more are being made. The point of a hybrid isn't supposed to be so that you can be the fastest. There are people that do that, but thats drag racing, where its not even a normal frame. Hybrids are for the guys who want something different, that the factories don't make. Everybody at the dunes has a banshee or a raptor, and so I built mine. Just to be different. The people that build piece of crap weekend hybrids just to go fast on are the ones that don't deserve it.
