I found a black 94 trans am with 115k miles 6 speed on craiglist near me and they want 3000 for it. What are some common things to check for when looking at buying them? If its in good condition is it worth the money?

That's a good price if its in nice shape.

Common issues-

Headlight motors- The crappy gears strip and either make noise or don't work at all.

Windowmotors- Another crap set up, look to see if they're real slow.

Optispark but obviously as long as it runs smooth thats not an issue.

AIR pump. Known to fail. No biggie, just pumps oxygen into the cat at startup.

Listen for any odd noises out of the differential, the stock 10 bolts are WEAK.

That's pretty much it.

^ pretty much all the issues you can encounter. there is a fix for the window motors using different relays. also, the rear end will most likely whine.. especially in a 6 speed. make sure that when you're in reverse it stays in reverse.

just remember, if the rear end blows you could always put in a strange or moser 12 bolt or 9"

Get your T-56 rebuilt with steel shift forks and carbon blocker rings to get rid of grinding into gear issues.

if you got back with oem internals it shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred bucks if you do it yourself. I had to do it to my t-56. wasn't to bad.

Do you think you can give me more info on that? I have to replace my 1-2 syncro and my father has done some manual transmissions in the past, but we are weary about doing mine.
