This metal clip was stuck to my brake pad when i pulled it out of the rear caliper. I didn't noticed it was stuck on there, until after i installed the new pads and re assembled the brakes. What is this piece? Was it a part of my other brake pads or is it something i need to reinstall with the new pads? You can see in the photo where the piston pushed up against it so that's how it was positioned.

This piece was stuck to the pad that i replaced.

im not exactly sure of its purpose, but it goes on the back of the piston side brake pad. the pins that hold the pads in also go through those top holes, so it will help you position the piece.

Its a anti-rattle clip I think, needed-not really but put it back just to make sure.

I put it on one of mine and not on the other and the side that doesn't have it works better for me. haha

just wanted to follow up.

I've been running for a couple weeks now without this little metal piece and everything seems to be just fine. brakes work good.

if you want your brakes to last don't set your parking brake up, that thing will cause premature wear even if you try to set it right.

That part is a brake pad shim/anti rattle clip, yea its kinda needed but it wont do any harm if you dont run one.

eta: oops didnt know I replied to this earlier..
