I was just talking to some guy I used to know who was trying to convince me that he knows all this stuff about quads, and he's really into riding and all this crap.
So I asked him what he rode, and he said a banshee.
I used to ride banshee's so naturally I asked what he had done to it, and he replied:

"I just started making it fast, I got a dual exhaust, cuz they give way more power, and I just got done putting some cams in"

That's about the day that I realized that I would encounter many more like him. There's no point in setting their story straight. Just nod and go on.;)

I've also got a roommate who thinks he can design a 5 stroke engine. He thinks more strokes=more power.

And he replied, "If it's a 350 twin then why don't they just call it a 700?" I just nodded and said that I was wondering the same thing lol. thats just like this one guy i was going to be his dirtbike and he told me he installed power bands to make it faster... lmao and cams =p i was like this bike dont have cams hes like then how do the valves move i was like it dont have valves haha... no i didnt buy the bike... =p

Hahaha yes there's really no use arguing with people. The owner of the local shop around here is a pro at dealing with people who don't know what they're talking about. That would be frustrating eventually.

Most of this thread is pretty funny. Though I often will say stuff sorta like this to my friends who I know have no clue about cars/ATVs/bikes....

One time I was talking to my friend about my LTR450... I told him that it was actually a rare 4 cylinder model, so instead of being a 450 it was really more like a LTR1800!

He told me that sounds awesome, and that it's probably faster than a street bike. I just said yep and smiled haha.

You guys should see how many stories there are over on NASIOC about things people say to guys in WRXs/STIs.... man you get some laughs from things from what random people on the street will say to WRX/STI owners. I remember this one guy went up to a guy with an 05 STI, and tried to explain to him that it was a bad idea to have his radiator mounted so high (pointing at the top mounted intercooler you can see through the hoodscoop). The guy with the STI actually showed this other guy the turbo, but the guy didn't believe him.... oh the humor that us Suby guys get to enjoy haha.

speaking of NASIOC, thats where my roommate goes all the time (he thinks his outback sport can own STI's). He's always trying to tell me how everyone on there is so stupid and know nothing about cars. This is an exact quote: "How can someone design aftermarket parts that make the car slower? I mean, the stock exhaust on my car is far superior to anything on the market"

lol, this is funny stuff. I know plenty of bench racers and know it alls that have no clue lol. they can def talk the talk but seem to miss the first step every time lol. i have heard that 1 in 25 atv owners can actually ride a sport machine to the fullest it can be ridden. it is funny to see them roll over the 20 and 40 footers I hit with their 450s and still act like they are king pimp after getting owned. steve

Hahaha nice. There is 1 kid at my school who has a Raptor 660 and he is convinced that it could smoke my LTR450 anyday on any surface.

Honestly though when I was buying my LTR450, it was at an ATV show, and I could have gotten a Raptor 700 for a bit more $$ than the LTR450. I went with the LTR450 for some other reasons, but going home that night I remember thinking that maybe I should have got the Raptor, it is a 700 and is probably much faster! That was before I was into quads, laugh all you want, I was an idiot (when I was rocking the Baja 90cc ATV hahahahahah). I went home the next day, did some research, and never looked back on buying the LTR! Especially the first time I raced a kid up at my cottage who has a Raptor 700!

HAha that's great. NASIOC is a love it/hate it forum... there are a lot of punks, a lot of idiots, but there is also a lot of great advice and knowledge there! I find that for Subie knowledge, generally IWSTI is a bit better.... but I rarely visit NASIOC without getting a good laugh... especially from the off topic section. I recommend you all go to the off topic section... you will see what I mean! I don't think there is a single car forum on the internet that can compare to NASIOC .... it's just really unique! So are Subaru's, and the whole Subaru scene really.

I like muffler bearings but I'm not sure he'll buy that one.

While waiting for my highschool bus I was talking about dirtbikes with a friend when someone turned around and said "yeah man, I have a YZ125, the powerband is like this", at the same time he put his index finger & thumb about 3 inches apart and waited for us to gasp. I knew a kid back in the day that would ride his blaster with my buddy and I sometimes, he claimed he had a real nice Raptor with "wider arms" and all sorts of fancy 5hit. Thing was, it was always in the shop, or his cousin borrowed it. I've always tried avoiding people talking about quads unless they were actually racing/riding buddies. Too many talk out their *** about what they have, yet I never see it. I just don't know what to say to them when I know they are full of it.:scary:

This reminds me of the time me, my dad and friend were doing some maintenance on our quads. My dad started joking around with me saying my muffler bearings were shot and I was losing power because of it. My friend actually believed him and told me thats why I wasn't getting the holeshots.

So we had him call up the local shop and ask for replacement muffler bearings for an '89 250r and a mazewer wrench (not sure how to spell it right) to fix it. Amazingly the guy had no idea what my friend was talking about and kept asking him what he meant and if he wanted muffler packing. Needless to say it was a fun day messing with him, still tease him about it to this day.

It seems like people are just trying to sell there junk that they have no clue what it is whats done to it or whats wrong with it

I have read countless adds for banshees and blasters that say the cams were just replaced

Then theres the people that scam

ie: I have a 2004 400ex it has a wiseco 15:1 compression piston
Stage 4 hot cam
It runs on race fuel but smokes some because of all the compression
i want 500$ or trade for a blaster or banshee


Or i just replaced the powerband

at the start of the last school year a rather large ginger kid in my literature class told me about his 300ex that had a big bore kit and racing this and racing that. he said it would do 140. then he got pissed because i laughed at him.:p

(this was shortly after he told me the story about his bronco that he owned that sat on 43's and towed a blazer up a muddy hill with a rearend that was broke in half)

He said would would smoke evrything at the drags while he was on the grab bar going down the track because its imposible to keep the front end down,

Then he said "o dont worry im gona put a 520 kit in it and a sparks pipe so i laughed again and asked u mean your gona bore it 120over right?

He said ya and i just walked away because apparently he didnt know he was off buy 114cc when it would only be a 426 not a 520
