Hi,

This is my first post on this site.I'm from Queensland in Australia and I thought I would pass on a few mod.s that I have done to my young blokes trx90.

I bought it as a stock 2000 model and after the first weekend I knew I had to do something about the suspension.

Firstly my son is eight and is pretty much a beginner-novice rider so I didn't want to outlay to much yet.

My other son has a trx300ex which he races so there were plenty of leftover parts from this.[300ex are rare in Australia as only 22 were imported by honda in 1996.]

I went the diamond j kit with the 300 arms but had trouble getting the camber right ;so I went for 400ex arms instead and what a difference.About 2 deg. -ve camber and plenty of travel.
Raptor 250 stock shocks and it works a treat .Its about 1230mm /48.5 " wide at the front.

Now the back.300ex swingarm. [plus 2" on a standard 90 one] I had to mod. the brake side mounting bracket for the rear swingarm from the inside to the outer of the frame and cut 15mm of either side of the swingarm to allow it to fit into the frame and I had to get a longer swingarm bolt.Tried using a stock front 300ex shock but its a bit soft.Currently looking for a stock shock to suit about 330mm/13" long.Any ideas?????

5" spacers on the stock 300 axle for a with of 1245mm / 49" .

Disc brakes front and rear and a big improvement over standard .
Once his riding improves I'll get some a-arms and shocks for him and a G-force axle for the rear.

An exhaust ,rev box ,carbie etc on the motor.

I hope this gives a few people a couple of ideas on how to make a good quad even better without hurting the wallet to much.

thanks scotty.

thanks scotty.

Hey Tom,
Mate the swingarm is an unbelievable difference. The elka that we got was abit of shoehorn effort but it was set up perfect [weight wise] for the young bloke.
He had his first race meeting and placed 5th overall in his class [12-16 yrs 200-300 class],out of a field of 18 riders .[some in his class are veterens of 5 years racing.]Rookie of the meet.
The 300ex performed effortlessly and most of his passing moves were thru deep woops sections .Quickest in his class thru the woops.
thanks once again.

I've got the photos just trying to up load [sorting thru on photo bucket]

Photos asap.
thanks scotty.

I forgot to mention that the stay that supports the exhaust needs to be cut and re-welded to the outside to allow for clearance of the swingarm thru its arc.
I had the 300ex front shock on its softest setting ,so after adjusting the preload up 2 or 3 notches it seems to sit and work quite well.
Living in Australia it is difficult to get 300 bits[ ebay is great] so I was going to remove the bush and bearing from the front tube before cutting but didn't want to damage so I left them in .
I placed a small piece of rag inside to keep the metal out of the bearing whilst cutting.[ Blew out with compressed air when finished.]
I had a couple of goes to get it right ,but ended up with a couple of millimeters of bush [sounds wrong ] left before the bearing.
The 300ex caps and seals still went on and I applied a liberal amount of grease to everything to allow it to slide in.
A few adjustments maybe needed the exhaust stay before you weld it back in [do it after the swingarm is in].
I'll get some more detail photos soon.

thanks scotty.

Hi,
just like to make a mention that I had all the parts lying around to do this conversion.
If I had to go and buy all the parts from scratch then I would have gone a "kids on quad" swingarm and gone that way just because of being an easy fit up .
thanks scotty.

Just finished the rear brakes .
I ended up using a trx90 and a 300ex pedals and cutting /shutting them to get a great result.
I used the 300ex pivot with the arm for attuacting the rear master cylinder; cutting off the front section.
I cut off the front part of the trx90 pedal and welded it to the 300 piece.
Also used the 300 retun spring too.
I made a bracket from some 6mm flat bar to mount the brake cylinder.
I'll post some pics soon.
thanks scotty.
