450R carb install help

hey all, i read ZR's post on how to install the 450R carb.

im lost, i dont know anything about a carb... some posts said i need the hot start parts? what parts are needed? or what parts are not? what do i do with the electrical connectors?

i got this off ebay, its off an 04....

also where are the jets at?

Yes you will need the hot start, but you don’t hook it up you just screw it in and use it as a plug.
Don’t try to just plug it up with what ever it needs to be the hot start.
The jets are under the float bowl, you have to take the bowl off to get to the jets. A 17mm should get the bowl off and a 6mm should get the jets out.
You will also need a 450 throttle cable, the ex cable won’t fit the 450 carb.
Also you will need to make a adapter for the air filter, just use a 2” rubber radiator hose to extend the filter tube.
The carb should just slip on the intake tube from the head with just a little wd40 and just push and twist it as you put it on. You will need to use a deferent hose clamp then the stack one. A 3” hose clamp will do.

as for the wires just roll them up and use a zip tye to secure it.

Ok thabks. What part is the hotstart? Or qhat part do I need to put in? So I wouldn't do what ZR did with the rtv? Ill take a look at a 450r manual tonite and see if I can figurr it out. Maybe ill maje a more detailed How To. When I put it on. Thanks!

It only will fit one spot so it shouldn’t be to hard to figure out

well the hotstart spring/plunger is not in my carb. wheres the cheapest place to buy them? i found this on ebay but it looks like it is just the outside piece

Just go to any OEM parts dealer and get the hot start kit. It was like $25 for the '05 450r kit.

Yep any Honda dealer will have it. Should be about 25 bucks, don’t forget the cable while your there. another 25 bucks.

actually mine runs great with out the hotstart pieces...

you dont really need them, but you do have to block it the right way.

its up to you to get them or block it, I saved the money and did it myself and havent had a single issue.

ok thanks guys. ill call the local honda dealer. as for the throttle cable...i know the 400ex cable wont work....do i need to get the 450r cable AND thumb throttle? or will a 450r cable hook up the the stock 400ex thumb throttle?

The thumb throttle part is the same on the 400 and 450. Another part you may want to add is the 450 fuel line. The inlet on the 450 carb is bigger then the 400 but the tank side is about the same.

ok good news! i took the hot start cable holder off. and inside is a long spring and the part inside looks like a plunger that has a flat head screw driver to remove it so the Hot start must already be in my carb!!!!!! so all i would be then is the 450r throttle cable!!!! i got my carb on! just need to extend the rear so it will reach the intake boot.... ill go to the auto parts store on friday and just get a rad hose that has the same ID and use some clamps..... tonight i got the one vent tube moved like ZR did. and all i have to do tomorwo is plug the hotstart.

i noticed in the 450 honda manual there is a screen where the fuel line meets the carb....mine is missing. should i get one? OEM parts fische doesnt have one.... any thoughts?
