when you do the shock upgrade should you also replace the rear shock or have it revalved and sprung?
also can you do this mod with out grinding the shock?

You dont have to get/redo the rear shock, I found mine fine.

You also dont have to grind the shock at all if you knock off the nuts on the frame and put carriage bolts on to hold those plastic mounts.

What you must grind is a little bit of the frame where the top of the shock mounts so the shock can move freely. Most say they didnt do it, well I would LOVE to see how metal on metal contact is working out for them.

you dont have to do any grinding and theres no rubbing at all theres like a millimeter of space between the shock and frame and if you tighten the shock bolt like you should there will be no rubbing even if they were touching

I installed a set on mine and my friends 400 and we cut the top mount ever so slightly for relief otherwise they rub ever so slightly.

take out the bolt and take a flat head screw driver and a hammer to break the weld on the nut

Yep, thats exactly where you gotta grind/cut. It rubs on the shock mount on the inside and right side of that picture.

If you cut the area circled in red it will fit fine and not rub your shock eye area.

i used 1/4" x 1/2" long. yes you need to trim it back a little to get the bolt holes to line up perfect. or you could beat it into place.
