so i have a 416 11:1 comp. piston, im just wondering what i an expect as far as horsepower if i decide to build it.
the mod list would be

k&n no lid
fmf slip on
stage one hotcam
crf cam chain
416 11:1 piston
maybe a mild port and polish

Lower 30's, like Steve said.

If you decide to go with a stage 2 cam, I would suggest getting a header and an FCR carb.

The stg 2 definitely does not warrant an aftermarket header or an FCR and is a great cam for an average build. The only reason I'd ever recommend a stg1 is for a stump puller build.

Yes, a stage 2 or 3 is best for a build unless you want all out torque.

If you were to build a 416 with a stock or stage 1 cam then there is no reason to go with a header or even the FCR carb.

However, if you decide to go with a stage 2 or 3 hotcam, then the carb and header will make a noticeable gain. They complement each other very well.

We're just going to have to disagree here. I mean you'll notice a gain anytime with an fcr but the header is a waste for a stg 2.

The biggest difference between the stg 1 and 2 is where you're making power. There will be a touch more power with the 2 but mostly it will open up your mid and top end more. The FCR will give you better response and over that stock carb a little boost in power. IMO $ not worth the gains. Get a 450r carb and the stg 2. You'll like it. Remember if you thought you were making more power then you are then the gains you were looking for will still be realized.

I'm going to have to disagreed with a couple previous posters...

You can pick up a nice FCR for less than $150 if you shop around (got mine for $128,) and from what I understand, that is about the same price as the 04-05 450r carbs...

The 04-05 450r carbs are 42mm, and that is a bit overkill for a 400ex, especially a milder build such as yours. You wouldn't really use its full potential until you were pinned WOT. Also, you have to worry about plugging hotstarts, stretching intake boots, etc.

With a 39mm FCR from a YFZ 450 (I've seen a couple for sale, with throttle cables here on the forums for $150), you will see a performance increase in the midrange to WOT. The only thing you have to worry about is getting a throttle cable (which you have to do with the 450r carb also), and it really isn't that big of a deal. Stretching the carb boot isn't bad for a smaller FCR from my experiance.

Don't get me wrong, if you went with a 450r you would still see performance increases and a snappier throttle, but with an FCR like I said you would get more power where you want it. Just food for thought...

As far as usability the old 450r carb due to it's old school design really isn't over kill but if you can get an fcr for the same price then it's a no brainer, get the fcr. Didn't realize the prices had balanced out.

yep the prices on the yfz450 fcr carbs are surprisingly cheap. ranging from $220 to the ocassional 120-150$ carb on ebay. I scored one on ebay for 120$ shipped the other day, I was the ONLY bidder, which surprised me alot since it was so cheap. I just have to get a throttle cable for it since it wasnt included, which is another 20 bucks.
