I would keep the gt, unless you really want a convertible. I honestly find the saleen looks a bit on the girlish side.

thats an awesome car but i was never a huge fan of saleens, especially convertibles. i think if you trade your car in and spend 10k more get an 03/04 cobra without a doubt. best mustang you could ever buy

Im not a fan of verts, but if the saleen is worked motorwise I would nab it.

I would go for it if its that rare. Course you could always take yours and do what you want, 10k goes a LONG way.

I would keep the GT. The Saleen is sweet but convertibles aren't my thing. Not worth the extra 10k IMO.

I personally only like the '05+ Saleen.

the only reason i considered trading mine at all was cause my dad traded the saleen in on a expedition so i can get it for $21k where it would sell for $28k..and it was $48k new

05-29-2010, 01:46 PM
For 21k you can get a Cobra. :D Just my .02, but if It were me I would find a Cobra for 19-22k and trade in the GT for it. I think the Cobra would be more on insurance though. I was getting quotes a while ago when I was about to buy one.... Needless to say, I didn't buy one because It's not worth $380 a month just for insurance.

saleens are nasty, if your goal is to drive fast/take chances get the saleen. if you just drive it everyday and cruise, keep the gt......and whoever said saleens are girly is retarted.......

I say do it... for the price it doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Personally I'd also look for a Cobra... but that's me.

hold up only a $10K difference in a GT and a saleen extreme (which is what it looks like from the pics) if thats the case whats wrong with the saleen, i see those go for upwards of $28,000

Cobra's are more. As soon as that SVT comes across the screen they go up a good bit. A saleen has a GT VIN number on it so insurance is the same as a GT

the saleen pictured has a s/c on it if its an extreme which it looks to be from the center exhaust

edit: just read its not the s/c one. Thats the first one ive ever seen with center exhaust that wasnt s/c'd unless the owner had the center exhaust put on. Is that berrilyum or something like for the color? If so that color absolutely pops in person

Sell the GT and by a C5 Z51 corvette:D

Sorry, I am just partial to corvettes.. always have been. The Cobra's are sweet rides and I would LOVE to have one... but I love C5's. And the Z51 handling package makes them handle so good. My buddies dad just picked up a Z51 for 21k on ebay.

You can even get a Z06 (LS6 motor) for that price..
I mean this is just sex..

In NJ for my friend who is 21 insurance for a corvette was 10gz a year not worth it IMO

I think putting 10k into the mustang you have would be better. The saleen has way too much into the cosmetics. There is just too much bumper on that thing. Putting 10k into your gt with a supercharger and some suspension work would be just as sweet. I usually like the looks of the Saleens, but not the convertibles.

also think about resale value. Putting 10K into that GT will only add maybe 3K to the asking price in reality.

Ur still pretty young right? I'd say hold onto the GT for a few more years then upgrade. I'm 20 and the last thing I wanna drop money on right now is a new car.

thats what ive been trying to say...im not doing that for sure...even if i put some miles on the saleen and sell it i dont see myself losing much at all if anything
the center exhaust was an option from the factory...looks sweet!..haha

So lemme get this straight. You have a gt that you wanna trade for basically another gt with saleen stickers and bodykit?

Nah dont do it IMO, as said before, trade for a cobra!

jjv101
05-30-2010, 08:21 PM
if your going to trade it in, if i were you id get another mustang in this order: 03/04 cobra, 99/01 cobra and put some goodies (s/c or trubo) or a 05+ GT, or dump money in to the current one and make it a sleeper?

dont forget the mach 1 which is a tad faster, not much just a little bit and a better built motor than the 99-01 cobra if you get the 5 spd. It comes with the forged cobra crank that has proven to hold huge power. The automatics came with the weak one like in the GT

i have to say that i love the look of saleens, but $10k extra is a lot of money.. especially at your age. i would keep the GT because its pretty awesome too and its probably not breaking the bank as much.

why would I be mad? Ive seen some that make power but cant plant it. Ive seen a 13 second car take down a 10 sec civic on the street already. I dont hate on imports but i wont own one unless its a skyline or something radical, but hey ive seen you post around here plenty of times and i know you get your jolly's off on making people get up tight, which im far from, so take it as you would like because honestly, i really do not care

wait "make power but cant plant it"... you must be joking. My friend Chris has a high 10 second 1/4 import on street tires. And it hooks on the street too. dont say it doesnt make torque either because it made 543ft lbs at 4000RPM and its a 4 cylinder. and you "13 second car taking down a 10 second civic on the street" what do you mean? I love this because cars run constant no matter what the driver right? You can have 2 identical cars with different drivers one runs a 12 and the other trying their best runs a 15. Seen it happen. Heck when I ran my car my friend ran .4 slower with bolt ons and I was completely stock with a bad O2 running rich.

I have a new idea for the OP.

You're VERY young yet... and the GT's are nice rides. I think you should keep that 10k in the bank, and keep saving/adding money to it, so when you're a little older, you can go and put a huge down payment on a C6 vette, or brand new mustang and such.

There's no reason to own insane cars at 18. If you upgade to something faster, go all the way a couple years down the road. Because even a stock, base C6 would run down that saleen easily.

Canadian144
06-05-2010, 06:56 AM
^ That sounds like a decent idea.

I'd save it up and get a used 5.0 in a few years.... that would be pretty sick.

Here is a better plan. Take about 3gs supercharge or turbo it. Then take the other 7gs and put in the bank. Then when your a bit older use it to put a down payment on a house or something that will actually make you money not depreciate. Make your money make you money. Got to start investing at some point.

Yeah, but to do the supercharge properly, he would really have to pull the motor out and do more then just bolt the supercharger on. Putting one on a stock bottom end is a gamble, and some people have luck some people don't. I'm sure he wants something fairly reliable if he's keeping the car longer, which would mean new rotating assembly.

The Cobras had stronger bottom ends.

Not quite, depends on how much boost you throw at it. The stock block and internals can hold close to 500rwhp. You could still be pretty dam reliable sitting at 400 hp to the wheels which is a HUGE improvement over stock. It would make it feel like a whole new car. If you want to start thinking about 600+ thats when you need to start working on you bottom end. But at that point your block is not going to be able to keep up anyways, screw the rotating assembly, you'll need it all if you want to be reliable at those numbers.

Stick the cash in a high interest account and dont touch it till you find something smart to do with it. Your GT is sick, keep it.
