I have recently started racing MX with my 300 (and doing quite well) and I just put my new Razr's on and was wondering what everyone else had for MX gearing with 20" tires. The local track is very tight and I get up to 4th gear maybe once. The thing is, I also do a lot of trail riding and I figure a good MX type gearing will probably work pretty well in the woods also right? Thanks for the sugestions.

I would go with a 13t c/s, that would give you more bottom end and on most mx tract you don't need that much top end.

here is what I calcualted using the gearing calc. on z-central. http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/400ex.htm

Stock @ 8250 rpm
13/38
22 inch tires

mph
1) 22.41
2) 33.73
3) 44.35
4) 55.3
5) 65.37

13/38
20 inch tires

1) 20.39
2) 30.69
3) 40.35
4) 50.31
5) 59.97

14/38
20 inch tires

1) 21.96
2) 33.05
3) 43.45
4) 54.18
5) 64.04

I just went to 20 inch tires on my 300 ex but have not had time to try it out yet. as you can see the 14/38 w/ 20 inch tires you gain just a little bit of bottom end not loosing much top.

I hope this helps you out.

Thanks, I was thinking of going back to a 13t anyways, not exactly sure now why I went to a 14t in the first place since I dont really need the top end.

Keep stock gearing. My 300 has 18" tires and could be geared up a lil, but I dont race it (Thats where my R comes in, anyway) so i like playing with the torque.
on a real tight track, gearing down with 20's might even be a possibility! It just depends on how you ride your quad and how you use the power and clutch
