a couple lengths, is that stock gearing that will make a difference. if it is a bit higher you will get him for sure, if lower it may be really close. a modded 416 should run just about 72-75 and a stock 250r should run that with stock gearing. steve

well i mean only in a 300ft drag not a top speed run. 250r would have 13:39

400ex gearing would be 15: 38

I could be almost to top speed in 300 ft lol with my 15/38 it is longer than you think once you start to line them up. I still think you will get him though if you can take off good and have some good tires on it. steve

yeah on my 416. i dont know how many lengths it would lose by as i have never raced or even ridden a 250r. I would say 2 or 3 maybe. i have beat an lt250r though it was actually a pretty bad womping he took from me lol. he was pretty disappointed in his machine after i got done with him lol. he was geared down but it did not matter( i think that was his excuse) cause he didnt even come close to even pulling ahead of me or even staying along side me. lol. steve

Is the motors power matched to the gearing? what power are both built for? What size tires? stock for stock a 400 will keep up the first few feet on take off but the r will pull away in the upper gears. if the r is stock and the 416 is built it will keep up a little longer but the r will still get you toward the end.there are to many unknown factors to say for sure, such as which fmf you have are the reeds the metal 86-87 reeds or are they stock 88-89 fiber reeds. the instances I give were with new 400's against 250r's that were in top condition and not built to the max. like bkelly said race him and find out keep the throttle pinned and keep shifting and don't feel bad if you lose at least it is a honda your up against.

heres a video of my old 250r back when I had it running in its prime...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyUfnzBIjQY

it was a 260cc, ported, ESR exhaust, vforce3, high compression on race fuel.

if the 250r is tuned up and running good, he will eat the 400ex up every time on a average 300ft or more race. the 400ex might hang with him through the first couple gears.
