I have a mostly stock 400ex and I wheelie alot for miles on end...
My buddy who races said to be careful because while haveing the quad at 12 oclock oil cant make it to where it needs to and im gonna blow the motor....

1) Is This True

2) Is there a mod that can correct this?

Keep it on all 4 wheels. Not sure but I think you will be fine. I am sure someone with more experience will chime in.

The oiling system is under pressure so you should be ok. You dont have to keep it on all 4 wheels. Just make sure to get all 4 in the air at the same time.

Ive been a stunt junkie all my life from my GSXR to the dirtbikes so wheeling comes natural... as far as jumping comes im just starting to get into hitting jumps and have yet to race... as you can see from the video, that jump in the sand dunes was that first time I ever hit a jump on a quad... I am working on it tho!!!

My buddy was behind me and he was saying that after a long wheelie when I hit the gas I blow a puff of smoke out my exhaust and it seems like im topping off my oil alot more frequently lately

Sounds like valve seals. I would think when you have the front in the air the oil puddles up and when it lands it runs past the valve seals into the cylinder.

Could be the rings too.

If it hasn’t blown the motor by now chances are your ok. I say ride on which ever wheels you want. I used to do the same thing on a Honda 250sx three wheeler and I would ride a wheelie for miles and never had a problem. These days I don’t have a place where I can do that anymore. I road a wheelie for 18 miles on the beach one time and never had an issue.

I have been riding wheelies on my EX ever since I bought new back in 99 and have never had an issue. I just pull it up and cruise on down the road in 5th gear without any worries.

If the oil system is not pressurized then you could ruin the engine as I did with my old Blaster, but, your EX will be fine.

i know for a fact 450 motors can go from tomuch constant acceration. the oil pump is in the front of the motor and while accelerating it just pumps air and no oil if your a lil low on oil.

Yea thats what I figured if it was gonna go I think it would have went... Also does anyone have problems with there 400ex starting up when its cold, mine will fire right up but if I dont stay by the throttle and give it a little stab every once in a while it will stall, but once its up to temp it will idle perfect... Is there a fix for this?

They all are pretty tough to start and keep idling for the first few minutes. just a common thing but not a big deal

Some one was saying that a jet kit would fix it

Yeah you can put a bigger pilot in to help with cold starts. As for wheeling being bad for bikes, I think that's one of the most famous myths about motorcycles. We should call up Mythbusters.
