Saturday I'm heading north to ride an ORV state trail in Michigan with a buddy of mine. I've never ridden with him or his crew, but they all ride enduro style bikes and utility quads... and he said last time they were at this particular set of trails, he never left 3rd gear.

The trail is 48miles long... they do about half of that at a time, sounds like a slow pace.

I've got a 426ex, hotcam2, airbox lid mod with k&n and outerwear, HMF full system, stock carb, 170main, 45pilot....

How long can i guess this machine will go before running out o fuel?

Thanks - Randy

I am running the same jet setup and I just ran a trail 2 weekends ago. I ran about 1/2 - 3/4 tank of gas on about 30 miles, riding 2nd and 3rd the whole way. Up and down hill.

Hope this helps..

Just remember, the bigger the jets, the less mileage you will get. Also, its not what gear your in, its how high your RPM is that determines how much fuel your using. Its very hard to guess what kind of mileage you will get. I will say this though, I have gone on some pretty long rides on less than a tank of gas. If your buddies have utility quads, have them pack an extra gas can or 2. Just to be safe.

WOW I'm suprised by your answers cause the wife and I can ride all day around croom or ocala trail system and only use 1/2 tank max. but Ive got stock size bore and stage two dynojets. I cant belive it makes that much of a diffrence.:eek2:

Allow me to correct myself.

When I say riding 2nd and 3rd gear I mean reving high in 2nd (uphills and whatnot), low rev- med rev 3rd just crusing. Also, I also ride pretty hard, so that explains my millage.

I agree with throwing on a can or 2 just to be safe!

I probably get around 10-15mpg. A tank of fuel lasts about 2 hours, maybe 3 if I take er' easy.

i have no clue about mileage but i can run 4 hours and use about 3/4 of a tank. That's basically a whole day for me. I'll be out there for 8 hours and i figure my quad is running for 4 hours of it.

440ex. ehhh!!

im not sure about the jets i have on mine, but its a 440 and i get about 4-4.5 hours on a full tank of gas. that is running in sand and fast trails.

look into getting a clarke 5.5 gallon fuel tank............then you wont ever have to worry about running out on a all day ride :D

I have a clarke 5.5 gal on mine. Back in March took two 60 mile rides without refilling an I still had fuel to spare.

its a 2.2 gallon tank. you only do 10-15 miles in an hr?

my 400ex got a solid 5-6 hrs out of a tank. at a 155 main and riding hard as hell

2.6 gallons then you have a .4 gallon reserve so you have 3 gallons at 25-30 miles a gallon at least if you ride around 20 mph all day. you can ride 90 miles if needed at least without running out. steve

I've done 80 miles,
(measured on a handheld GPS during the ride),
Riding mostly 3rd, 4th, 5th gears through desert flats, then up into mountain trails, switchbacks, and fire roads.
We started off at 2500' elevation, and went up to over 8000'.

I have a full Header and Big Gun muffler, no lid, Uni, 450r carb, 162 main, Sparks key, stock piston and cam. It is putting out a little over 32.5 HP.

I had switched to reserve about 7-10 miles before getting back to camp. probably only had (I'm guessing here), another5-10 miles max. worth of fuel left in in when we got to camp.
It was litterly running on fumes.

I've gone close to 5 hrs w/o hitting the reserve tank fuel. Figure 2-2.5 hrs out and the same back
