buying a 400ex ??

Hey guys. I ride a 01 300ex and one of my coworkers made a offer I cant turn down. So I would like to get a 400ex. The year range for my budget is 01-05. I know about the 05 and reverse but other than that I dont know many details about the 400ex. Are there any problem years or common issues to look for. Any input would be great. Thanks!

all years are bullet proof i would get an 05 if you think that you would use reverse alot. I use mine alot so im glad i have it. In my opinion the less done to the motor the more reliable they are. Unless your talking about a pipe jetting and a filter. If you do get one buy some 450r shocks best thing you will ever buy for that bike

I have had 2 different ex's. I bought one brand new in 02 and I own my current one now which is a 99. These machines are great and are packed with reliability and great performance. The only problem I have ever had with either is a broken chain tensioner due to my carrier bearings blowing out. I would never ride anything else but a 400ex

they are a pain to get started so if you look at one and its hard to keep running at first that is just a common thing. but once you get them warm the run great
