I`m having some trouble with my 04 450R. I over shot a jump yesterday and landed pretty hard. Now i`m getting electric shocks thru the handlebars. :(

It shouldn`t be a bad ground, the only thing capable of giving a shock would be the coil, I checked that, everything seems good. I didn`t change the coil yet. The spark plug cap wasn`t fully in, so I figured that might be it...but nope, still getting shocks...it`s not consistant, happends once in a while, while landing or braking, but not all the time.

Other then that, it still works just fine.

It`s a fully build mx 450R...except changing the coil, I don`t have any ideas...any help?

This one has me stumped.

Thanks

If you have a killswitch, take it off the bars and see if it still does it. I'd bet money that's your problem.

This has happened to me twice.
I overshot a berm and landed in a puddle and got shocked, and once landing hard.

I am trying to figure out why as well.gonna move the ground that's by the coil and try that, and of course recheck ALL my wiring.

Clutch lever or throttle housing would be shocking.

why would the kill switch do that, because mine is doing the same thing

Those of you getting shocked, what brand kill-switches are you running? Just curious. Mine shocks me when my hands get wet. I switched wires to make sure I wasn't breaking the ground, but that wasn't it. Pro Armor kill switch right now, but my pro design never shocked me.

First time I ever got shocked, it was raining, and I didn't make it up a hill at a race. I grabbed clutch and front brake, and instantly let go of both. It zapped me good that very first time.

I have a pro armor kill switch, but in i`ve had it for a while now, never happend until this had landing this week.

So no one really has a fix for this? Electrical tape between the kill switch and the bars? Would changing the coil help any?

I`m hateing this right now

So the fix is? Change out the kill switch? Or is it just the wiring that I have to check?

So, again....whats the fix? is it the wiring or the kill switch?

I think it's the switch. I am pretty confident in all my wiring and everytime my gloves get wet, I'm gonna feel it pulsing a bit.

Has it been shocking you since you installed it, or is this a new thing?

If it's been happening since you first installed it, reverse the wires going to the killswitch.
If it's a new development, I'd say it's wired correctly, but time for a new killswitch.

Yeah it`s only been doing it since my hard landing early this week...had the switch for maybe 2 years now.

I have the same issue. I'm going to pull mine off, wrap black tape around the bars and put it back on. I'm also going to re-route my ground wire from the frame to the ground wire on the battery. Not sure it will help but worth a shot...

I think what happens with a hard landing is the wire that runs back thru the switch yanks out just enough to hit the little metal tab inside and causes it to short out. This can also cause your bike to spit and sputter/cut out after a jump. Ever notice that yet? Mine does and has since I owned it... Spend the money and get a good one... PRO DESIGN all teh way. Tusk, pro armor... no... ALL JUNK!!!

I cut the wires last weekend so it wouldn`t shock me for the race, and it solved it, so the kill switch is the problem...time for a new one I guess.

Thanks for teh help guys.
