z400 problem

when the quad is turned off or on and its in nuetral it wont go into 1st gear without me holding the shifter down and moving it?

Please elaborate, your question is kind of vague. I think what your talking about though is normal, all motorcycles or quad's that require manual shifting require some movement to shift (gears have to align to shift). If your quad works fine when running I wouldn't worry about it. Still having fun though. Minndave13 :D

the thing was it has never done that before so i didnt know if i needed to check into it. i mean i can sit there and stomp on it and it wont shift but second i just click up and its fine.

If you ever watch people in videos, on dirtbikes or quads, whenever they come to a stop they always tap the shifter down like 10 times for the same reason you are. It's annoying but everyone does it.

Like Minndave said, if it's running well and works fine while riding it then I wouldn't worry.
