I'm just curious.

I just bought a 2001 400ex and see that lots of people are upgrading the handlebars.

Why ? is it looks, weight, handling ?

Just wondering why would someone upgrade the handlebars, I thought the stock one's where ok. What's wrong with them ?

Thanks again for the input folks. appreciate it.

You will find with the stock ones, after awhile of riding they will start to bend alot! I have renthals right now, TRX bend, and I love them! I've bent steering stems before I've bent them. However, this year I'm going to try some Tag X-5 with the CR High Bend. Good Luck

So you think that Renthals are almost the same as stock only stronger?

I would say so if you just want some bars that look nicer than stock but dont relaly ahve a different bend just grab some MSR dominators, other then that i would say the Tag T-2s.

How long have you had ur Renthals? Any bend in them yet?

02-10-2003, 05:14 PM
I have had them for about a year and raced mx on em and not a problem at all. They are great and they give better handeling as well

I got tag x-5 gust bend on my 400ex over a year ago, I have filpped it a coupple of times, and raced a whole season of motocross on them and have not had one problem with them, although after this next season I plan on going to t-2 CR HI, I just like the taper bars a little better.

I used to run mainly Renthals until I ran across a company called DeMarini. They make a bar called Demarini Platinum Hi Pull Back/ Quad which is a double-walled bar but still 7/8" in diameter. They are more expensive, but they absorb shock and vibration much better, and will not bend nearly as easy. They are mainly in the softball bat business, and if you think about it, there is a lot of $$$ spent on softball bat technology, and they know their stuff. Their cross bar isn't straight and rigid like a Renthal, it has a slight bend in it which allows the bar ends to flex more, which helps absorb more shock upon impact.

i love my bars they have less sweep so it definetly improved handling over the crappy stock bars, they also put you in a better riding position... i really felt like i had more control over the quad when i switched to my tags, no complaints whatsoever

I just ordered Renthal Ricky Carmichael High bends. I hope they are nice. I also hope the bar pad fits inbetween the mounts on my steering stem.(paid an extra $20 for it)

Renthal Fatbar CR hi bend, I'm liking it, if it was going on a stock stem, I'd get double CR hi.

I've got TAG T-2 CR Hi. I think they are awesome. I've had zero problems with them. The stockers were too uncomfortable and weak for me. I personally like the look of over-sized bars. It really comes down to what bend you would be comfortable with. The CR Hi put me in more of an attack mode when I ride, but I also rode bikes before I got my quad, so a motorcycle bend suits me more.

I've got tag T-2's.

Metzroth
04-13-2005, 08:59 PM
well, i hope i like having less sweep. Its about 11mm higher and about 20mm less sweep than the renthal trx bends. So it will be a more agressive bar. Prolly will be a little better goin around corners but not as comfortable as mine are now. They are for sale if anyone wants my pro tapers. A friend offered me $45 anything above that takes them.

I've got tag T-2's.

The gold T-2's look sweet on the 3-wheeler. Order a blue or red bar pad and that would really set it off.

i have a black bar pad and i like it. Think im going black and silver for my color scheme. Not sure yet. BTW i got my bars in today and they are nice. Quite a bit wider then my old ones tho. I can't wait to ride with them. Because of only one side of the handlebar bein knurled to stay on i think i will get a twist throttle, I've been considering it for awhile but with this excuse I have to try it.

Rocky Mountain ATV has these Longhorn fat bars for 39.95. Same quality as pro-tapers or Tags and alot less expensive. Also, dont forget the oversized clamp kit for the 1 1/8 bars. At rocky mountain you can get one from Tusk for 34.99, mounts to the existing clamps and gives a 3/4 inch rise. www.rockymountainatv.com

What about flex bars??

04-19-2005, 07:57 PM
flexx bars are EXPENSIVE.Dirtwheels just did a test, i think there like $300 or something rediculous like that

I put a set of Fasst Co. Flexx bars on my quad about a month ago. I think I will never own another type of handle bars. Yes they are expensive but well worth every penny you put into them.
