which are the better spindles? why ? i have both and am doin a little swaping. i see the 86-87 has the bolt on steering knuckle that the tie rod attaches to so i can see weight savings with the newer one but what do you guys have to say?

the 88 & 89 spindles are different. the 88 has a step in the spindle shaft to support the outter bearing race. the 89 is tapered and requires a tapered spacer in the hub between the inner and outer bearing

i would go with 89, if you can find them

i like the 89 over the 86-87 much better, but i just went to a 400EX spindle setup on my XC 250R and I love the way it handles!

I have used an 89 R setup, a 400ex setup, and now an 04 450r set up. Both newer front ends are lighter than the 250r spindles. MY opinion, the 04-05 450r is the best for XC. I liked the 250r setup, but i think i bent a spindle so i got the 400ex front end. It ended up beinga bent a lower a-arm. So i had all these extra parts. I did the 400ex a-arm swap. Now i have the 450 set up. 3 Different front ends, in 5 years. At least im happy now, and have lots of spare parts for future builds :D
