Would they be a big improvement to just a slip on, filter, and jet along with a cam, and a high rev kit? i just want to have a little bit more power, and im not sure if im gonna bore my quad over... thanx for the advice

A Piston and Cam will be a great improvement if you all ready have the Slip-On and Filter. Just be sure to check your cylinder out and make sure it's ok. They offer a few bores you could go with if you had to, like a 406 or 416. Just get a JE piston with 10.8:1 compression with a Cam and you should be good to go. I would not get a Rev Box. Most guys and engine builders agree they are not needed and cause problems with starting. Get the Cam by where you want the power, low-mid, or mid-top. Good luck...

Yeah. What type of riding do you do? Like Woods, MX, Dunes, or whatever....

i do some dunes, i do some drags with frenz, i do track occasionally, and rarely trail... so a lil of everything pretty much, but im building a track when the ground thaws out so mostly track and dunes...

Hot Cam Stage 2 will be a nice cam for you. It cost about 129 and CDracing (the exriders sponsor which gives us a 10% discount) carries them.

dont u have to harden the rockers with the stage II?

Nope with the Hotcams you don't need new Rockers or Springs. The TC MX Cam would also be a good Cam and is a Drop-In...

Yeah you will need new Gaskets. Here's what you will need:
JE Piston
A Cam
Gaskets
Viton Valve Seals
Some Jets
Labor

I think that's it....

WIth a stage one hotcam and a ross 10-5:1 standard bore piston along with mods in my sig i can beat stock raptors.

Do it, its worth it!

Edit:
Forgot my price list

Ross piston from Ross - $125 plus shipping

Stage one hot cam -$100 Got a good deal on a new one from aother member

Cometic Gaskets - $21.99 from Rocky Mountain

Shop manual -$30

Total was a little less than $300 after shipping and everything. Nopt bad considering you spend about $250 on just a slip on.

Like jchevy stated, going with a stock bore high compression piston is an option too. There is no boring, but we do recommend honing the cylinder prior to assembly.

Note: There is a big difference between the stock piston and the aftermarkets ones... Especially the weight difference. Wether you go with a 10.5 to 1 compression or a 10.8 to 1, there will be a very noticeable difference! Adding a slip-on maybe required to get the proper air flow though.

Another recommendation, if you go into your engine for the piston, it would make sense to put in an aftermarket cam. There are various cams out there that are "drop-in" cams, which do not require hardened rockers or different valve springs.

Yes you will need some new Gaskets. Not real expensive....

Well my brother has Works on his 250r and has rode my 400 and liked mine a whole lot better. I'm sure they will be better then the Works. Your setting your 400 up for XC Racing too right? That's what mine is being setup for. It's about done for now. Just got the Galfer lines the other night and those are awesome...
