polish and clearcoat?

If I take the paint off my heat sheild will it polish up very nice?
I have high temp(engine paint) clearcoat and I am in the process of polishing and coating my headpipe. I hope it will keep the pipe from oxidizing/discoloring quite so fast. I am also polishing my new R4 and am considering coating it. And while i am at it I am thinking about stripping the heatsheild and polishing it. Im just using Mothers, and cleaning it real good, then coating it.

Good or Bad idea?

just a little hint dont paint any thing on the motor paint traps heat and you deffinatly dont want more heat on you 4 wheelr
