The era of electric motorcycle racing has arrived, with the 2009 Isle of Man TT playing host to the TTXGP.

The machines for the world’s first clean emission race took to the legendary Mountain circuit on Tuesday afternoon for the first practice session around the 37.73-mile course.

Despite the doubters, 10 of the 14 starters made it around the TT course, and the speeds impressed all spectators.

Speeds in excess of 100mph were recorded on the Sulby straight, and the fastest machine round – Team Agni’s Pro Class entry – lapped at an average speed of 84.81mph.

i'm sorry but electric motorcycles is the most stupid thing i've ever seen in my life. especially for racing. i would hate being at a race and listening to a bike "buzz" by at a quiet controllable tone. its stupid. half of racing is the noise and excitement and you need and engine to accomplish that. on top of the fact, the engine is more powerful and i didnt see specs, but i'd be willing to be its lighter.

this is like trying to take a prius to an auto x event.

Its a good idea, and will become our future sooner or later.

I still would prefer a proper gas powered engine though.

The 4 stroke rumble is growing on me...but NOTHING compared to the smell of race gas and 2 stroke oil in the morning!

You are correct. It's still several years away but eventually the electric motor will take over.

The goverment is really pushing it. It's not a green thing either, all you are doing is moving it from the fuel pump to the electric plant. The difference, we produce our own electric.
