i have a question for you R guys. I have a 2001 400Ex and a 87 250R. Just got the R. Besides the different motors, will it be basically like riding the 400EX suspension wise? I'm talking stock for stock. Isn't the swingarm a little longer on a 87 say than an 88? How much? What are the drawbacks? I do plan on upgrading the A-arms and suspension on the 250R when money comes around.....:o

they will ride simular but keep in mind your riding on 16 year old suspension! the 400ex is designed based on the 250r. the 250r IMO handles slighly beter then the 400ex. yes the 86-87 swingarms were an inch (1.2 inches to be excact) longer then the 88-89 swingarms. the 88-89s aarms were positioned +1 more foward then 86-87 250rs. i would recondmend +2+1 aarms for your 87R as long with a -1 swingarm (88-89 lenth)
most parts are interchangable but some arent. such as the swingarms, footpegs, grabbars, and nerfbars. you can put a 88-89 swingarm on your 87 but it will require some work.

Thanks tants....I was kind of thinking of just getting +2 arms, I don't really ride mx often, more trails, hills, although I do like to try to tear it up on small mx tracks every now nd then. Do you think I really would need what you recommend if I'm not trying to be too serious about mx??? Thanks for the thoughts or anyone elses. BTW Tants, I remember you were looking for Elka's shockware's, here ya go bro.

if your not all about the mx scene and still want better handling... id go with +1 aarms. if your trails are tight i wouldnt go with the +2. depending on your trail conditions i would just get +2+1 aarms (plus two inches longer, plus one inch foward) depends on you...
