So i am in the market to get a full exhuast. I am looking into HMF bill Balance edition. I want a exhuast that sounds "beastly" and not ricey, and from the sound clips its the only exhaust i can find that sounds nice. so what else do you suggest?

that does sound nice, wud it sound the same as a regular 400 not a 426. HMF carbon fiber sport makes 12 hp as the hole exhuast i didnt see the specs on the big gun yet

looks like ebay is full of **** the HMF website is saying a increase of 6hp max witha full exhuast, ebay says 14hp wtf> what will give me the most power then?

Those specs are most likely BS. I doubt it'll increase it over 3 HP.

16 hp / lb? what da. lol. hmf is decent, an fmf header with a t-4 or something along the lines would be nice too. alot of good exhausts out there depending on what you want out of it. steve

LMAO dude i just realized what i said, lmao OMFG i ment to say 1 HP per 16 pounds right now its 1 hp per 21 pounds. for me. is it possible thats about 36 HP to the ground with Bolt ons?? I am not doing anythign internal until my warranty up> also anothr stupid question, will the fullexhuast and intake mod make me void the warranty.

honda400ex2003
05-18-2010, 04:46 PM
36 is quite a bit off a stock internals engine with some bolt ons in my opinion. lol. you could get close though with a full ex, 450 carb, cam and stuff. it is really hard to tell cause dynos can and do read different. lol. steve

ballerchaos
05-18-2010, 04:51 PM
good point, its 9 hp to the ground, so probably more like 13 at the motor, exhuast, and makeing a cover and running a uni is a long shot.... so maybe 18punds per hp would be a easier number to achieve this year. hows it been steve.

My White Bros R4 is very mean sounding and adds punch. You could also lose a couple lbs to help out the ratio :D I can say that because I've lost 35lbs since the beginning of the year. Down under 200lbs makes a BIG difference on the quad believe me.

unless your 3 foot tall 185 is not heavy when i had my 400 i done the hmf full exhaust and k and n filter with lid on and it made a world of difference. I have a sparks system ,aluminum air box with a k and n 250r filter no lid and sparks jetting on my 05 450r and it to made a world of difference. full systems will give you more along with air lid and air filter mods then they really start coming alive. dont forget to re-jet no mater what mods you do. there is alot of good systems out there it all comes down to your budget and taste.

nah i was 240 right now, lmao 185 is my goal wheight lol. ok im going to make my own pre-filter lid, run a uni, and do a full exhuast, jet the thing and tune her good. from my own personal research most full exhuast add the same amount of hp, just where the hp decides to kick in is based on the exhuast.

got you beat im 245 I would love to see 200 or better yet 185. A sparks 6 degree fly wheel key is a good but cheap mod also. i have been having good luck with my outer wears air box cover and air filter cover and never noticed any water or other debris yet in the box.

ye saw that how to, and im going to make my own outwears lid, i have the diamond plate and waiting to get the money together to do everything at once, so i only have to jet and tune once. im actualy debating doing some design or returning the diamond plate, becuase at work we have this sheet metal thats black with holes drilled in it, i dont know yet lol

That would be different, may turn out to be a good mod and cheaper than an after market lid. what size are the holes? they use to make air box filters that fit in a 3/4" hole. i use to use them on all my 250r's.

ballerchaos
05-19-2010, 09:48 AM
i would still run the ehs filter, but the holes are about a quarter inch, i found the fliter hole plugs your talking about on ebay there about 10 bux for a 4 pack, i may buy them drill my snorkle and install them on that lol

I have the HMF, performance edition. But one of my friends have a Yoshimura Off-Road, and it is loud, and sounds great.

I've got a power core 4 slip on, haven't got my powerbomb head pipe yet but just the slip on opened up so much power outta my ex I couldn't believe the difference. The fmf isn't as loud as some others ( hmf or white brothers to name a few) but it adds an awesome racy tone along with the much improved power...and hey its pretty easy on your wallet.

ballerchaos

yea, ive been listening to sound samples on youtube, ill look into the power bomb next and the yosh is so loud its nutz lol not runnen from people friendly

I like the sound of the Yoshimura full exhaust I have.
Nice DEEP tone...

It sounds like a chopper is landing in my yard when I come inside for a drink and leave it running.

If I had it to do over again though, I think I would try the Jardine full exhaust for the Power Gain!

Full exhaust is worth 1-2-3 hp at most with all the other systems.

The Jardine RT5 for the 400EX is worth 5.2 hp gain at peak and WAY MORE on top on to the rev limit.... way good for more displacement, hotter cams, etc, in the future.

The RT99 I have on my 450 has proven to me these systems are the real deal.

krt400ex
05-30-2010, 05:37 PM
i find it hard to believe 5.2hp. i'm not dissing that this is what is advertised, but it takes alot of work to squeeze that much out of the 400ex. i've never seen more than 3hp out of an exhaust for those, and that was probably when the barometric pressure, ambient temperature, and humidity, etc were all just right lol. an exhaust for these bikes just doesnt do alot. they dont pump nearly the volume of air that the 450's do in order to really make use out of the freer flowing pipe. different length headpipes dont really increase power, they move it from one end of the powerband to the other. longer headers help the low end while sacrificing up top. shorter headers do the opposite. it might make more on one end, but its gotta sacrifice the other side to achieve that. lrd used to advertise 7.2 hp with their power up kit which was a jet kit, filter, and full system. there is no way you're gonna achieve those numbers on a 400ex. that would take a high comp piston, cam, 416, and or porting. i never saw the advertised numbers on a legit dyno for an lrd system.

MtnEX
05-30-2010, 09:47 PM
Ordinarily I would really doubt it too, because no other 4 stroke exhaust has ever really impressed me besides Jardine.

I made a mistake though... it's not 5.2 hp gain... it's 3.3 hp on a healthy stock base line of 27hp stock. Most pull more like 25 hp... certainly a "safe" best possible stock run, jetted perfect and all. So we are talking a minimum of 3.3hp gain from just the pipe ALONE.

1-2 hp for the price just doesn't make a hit with me.

However, man I have to tell you, Jardine has their chit together on making headers and mufflers.

They have been able to figure out how to make "real" headers instead of cookie cutter copies.... and their headers just don't have the sacrifice.

They don't so much "move" where the power is made like others... Instead, they MAKE power and torque and do it everywhere.

Have a look at the curves...

MtnEX
05-30-2010, 09:55 PM
See, it is all in how they go the extra mile in forming the shapes of their headers and mid pipes.

Starting at the header, you will notice their shape, and that the diameter stays small and then goes into a huge mid pipe.

This I think allows them to keep the bottom and boost it also...

MtnEX
05-30-2010, 09:57 PM
And then the mid pipe cones into a true megaphone in the tail section at the muffler.

That's why this pipe keeps pulling on top in the dyno as well.

they alien does sound good but personally i like the sound of the sparks or the hmf's and they put out a good overall hp increase

ballerchaos
06-05-2010, 06:58 PM
yeah, hmf has dyno sheets for the bill balance at about a 4hp gain with open air box and propper jetting, the jardine is sick looking though, and they do make a nice set of head pipes

ballerchaos

kbmotorsports is cheaper then ebay holy sh1t, any one looking to buy anything go there, like 20% cheaper then ebay holy f*ck seriously the jardine is only 315=shipping

I get tons more midrange power with the Alien & a K&N. I can just leave it in 2nd when a stock 400ex would need to down shift.
And it definitely has a unique sound.
