I want to get a hood but I'm not sure which one I want. Right now I'm leaning towards the 400EX one. I was wondering if those of you with hoods could post some up some pictures for me. Also, is the 250r hood a direct fit after removing the lights? It looks like it's longer than the 400EX hood.

I think that the best choice for 05-06 is a maier 400ex hood.

That looks awesome, maybe a silly question but are you still able to run the factory headlight?

You need to remove the stock headlight and if you want it you can install new lights on handlebar or under front fender.

I wish there was a dual vented 400EX one. I think I may like that look better than just a single. I also can't decide on bar or frame mounted lights. I like the bars since you can point the light but I think frame mounted ones look better.

does the front maier plastic work with the stock rear?? And which of the maier reds match up to the stock honda red?

I don´t understand wath it mean "stock rear". In maier web you have colour chart but now i can´t find it. I think the last honda red colour is called "figthing red".

stock rear means oem plastics as in the ones that came on the bike

Will the 250r one work on the '05 model? It looks like it would be too long.

The hood I am talking about is designed to fit in 05-06 models. You only need to remove oem hood, headlights and attaching hardware and drill two holes.

It is too long, and the angle of the edge of the '05+ fenders is does not match either.

Here's mine with the 250R hood and old-style plastic.

So that narrows it down to the 400EX and 450r racing hoods. I think I may go with the 450r one, I like the dual vent better.

why not just get a 400ex generation x one. it will look way better and easy installation..personally i think u will ruin ur quad if u put one of those cheap maier hoods on it.

How would a hood ruin the bike? And I'm sure those gen x ones are expensive.

I want to move to HIDs and I don't like the look of the stock headlights, anyways. You're the first person I have ever heard call the Maier hoods cheap. If anything, the stock hoods looks cheap.

x2 the stock one seems cheap and just doesn't fit the rest of the bike like I wish it did, but dad says i can't get a hood because I need the lights every once in a while.

Yeah, that would be nice haha. Would friggin' light up the trails like crazy, too.

Should I stick with the normal black, or go for the carbon fiber look?

Isn't the carbon fiber really gray looking? (Unless that's a different brand) So the regular black would match better imo.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'm still torn between the the 450r and 400EX hoods, though. Anyone know if the 450r one would be a direct fit on an '05 EX?

I tried the 450r vented maier hood on mine and the mounting tabs are different (closer to the end of hood) and they went past the fenders to far so I would have to say no, thats the one I wanted also, heres a pic of both 450r and 400ex maier hoods, and my hood seems to be built pretty strong, I would think any hood would break on hard impact

Bryce I have the Carbon Fiber Maier hood on my bike

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v94/Etnies3590/14747_1213470252571_1103220171_3-1.jpg

it is more of a grey than black but still looks good. now that I got new plastics I will have a grey carbon fiber tank cover to match the hood and it will look sweet. you could do that too.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with the 400EX one. Are there any places that sell them for cheap? Maier wants $70 shipped on their site. I did see one on eBay for $53 shipped. That's probably be the cheapest I'll find.

Maier's Carbon Fiber is very grey looking until your up close. For your bike I would go with black. As far as lights go, I would go with bar mounted. I got some frame mounted Trailtechs, and the mounts were horrible. I'm in the process of building my own light/fender brackets for my hybrid because the brackets that they came with were sooo bad.
I think you chimed in on that guy a couple weeks ago who put a 450 hood on his old style ex plastics. I think you could pull the 450 hood off, but it would take some ingenuity

bkelley
05-25-2010, 01:38 AM
Yeah, I ordered a black hood and the bar mounted Torch lights this morning. I wanted to go HID but I couldn't justify spending $100 more on them. I don't ride all that much at night as it is. Plus the Torches will still be much brighter than the stock lights.

tayyo789
05-25-2010, 04:37 PM
Also having the lights mounted up higher than the stock location will help with visibility. I got the HID's even though I don't do much night riding. Judging by how bright they are, I might just have to start heading out at night more

bkelley
05-25-2010, 04:47 PM
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. If I had HIDs, I'd definitely ride more at night. If I had the extra cash I would have gone for them for sure.

Finally got mine on. Still need to put the Torch lights on, though.
