Hey guys,
Well I just won a CRF 450 carb on the Bay. It's a 40mm FCR, which is exactly what my builder reccommended. I will have to worry about the clearance with the gastank, but no big deal.
$128.51, I can't complain.

Anyway, I know peope often plug the hotstart on aftermarket carbs. What is this exactly? And is it going to cause me an issue?

I know it's a simple question, but it is way passed time to get it back together.

It is just a plunger that is in the back of the carb. Needs to be filled with rtv, sealed off air tight.. I am not sure if it is in the same location on the carbs after 04-05

I think I will go the route of investing in a hot start block off, just to be safe. What is the reason the hot start cannot be used?

I know the odds are I will need a new throttle cable. I am prepared for this.

Is there any other issues I should expect to encounter?

Eric,
I will use rubber bushings to raise the tank and plastic to create clearance.

Also, the carb you're using is a 42mm Keihn for a 04-05 450r(quad)

The one I got is a 40mm FCR for an 03 Crf450 (dirtbike)

I don't know if the carbs are the same. If your's runs right, I wouldn't worry lol.

I don't know if you're talking to me or not; I do not have a Sparks cdi. However, I know most of the 400ex's power is made before it hits the stock rev limiter. Because of this, an aftermarket cdi would not help at all unless you drag raced (which I'm aware you do), so maybe you will see some gain from it. I don't know for certain.

No problem.

I might be wrong then, do you know the diameter of it? The 06+ on the 450r is an FCR as you said, I think.

And if that is the case, did you have any trouble mounting it?

Alrighty, I'll get the carb here and take a look at it.

And I can't say much for the others, but no hard feelings here. I appreciate the help.

I just saw it. Looks really good and from the video it runs good too. I noticed from the pictures that the top of the throttle body seems to be modified. Did you do this?

05-16-2010, 09:42 PM

Alright I may need to do the same for mine. Do you think dirt would get in there and gum things up?

And that's extremely fast for a 400.
