hi, new to the site an couldn't be happier to find one with such a variety of atv models covered!!:) I bought my02 400ex pretty cheap..$600. of course at that price needed some work. it runs good..good power doesn't run hot or make any motor noise. it does however smoke (blue) a little if I'm in the throttle hard or down shifting fast from high speed.. deff burning oil cuz i can smell it. I just adjusted the valves.. could slide a .008 feeler gauge in on the intake valves with ease. haven't rode it yet to see if improved.thought about doing the 460 stroker this winter..but would i be better off spending another 1500 0n top of that an finding a 450r? should i just keep it simple maybe 416 stage 1 or 2 cam? looking for reliability, good power from idle on. should i change timing chain? read something about using crf450..any mods need to be done to do this? thanks for taking the time to read my "book"lol ANY logical opinions or guidance would be very appreciated!! thanks

personaly i wouldnt run a 460 stroker unless i had the extra money to keep it cool IE. bigger oil tank and mayb a secondary oil coller from FST

I just rebuilt my 426ex wit 11:1 comp and its still got decent power even tho my clutches r sliping

If u really wanted to make a stroker u migh be better of going with a 416 stroker(440) or a 426 stroker(i think its 450)

just my $.02

i agree with you, i was planing on upgrading the oiling system an its cooling capabilitys...if i went with the 460.

i didn't know about the 426 stroker. that use the same +4mm crank that the 460 uses and is a spiecal piston needed like for the 460?

well ya u would need a stroker piston

I know u can buy the 440 stroker pistons just about anywhere

I have herd of ppl putting a normal like wesico or je in a 416 or 426 stroker but i didnt here if it worked or not, u would have to talk to some1 thats runnin a 416/426 stroker to c what they used and where they got it
