So you ride alot at night, and you hate how dull your headlights are. You tried the crappy upgraded lights, that claimed to increase light output, but they didn't work. So what are you going to do?? HID headlights, just like the ones on the luxury cars, and a great, easy, and CHEAP upgrade for your quad.
I recently completed an HID conversion on my brand new 400ex and the bulbs may not be the same in your quad, but installation can't me much different. First things first, Where do you buy the HID conversion Kit. I used eBay for one simple fact, there cheaper. I Personally recommend Xentec HID conversion Kits, that can be found on eBay for 50 bucks or less SHIPPED. I also recommend that you get a Slim kit. Xentec ballast are water proof and vibration resistant, and haven't failed me yet. You will also need to purchase a HID wiring harness (I find a 9006 Harness works best), or if your good with wiring simply a relay harness to run from your OEM socket to your battery, and to the ballast. But it is actually cheaper to buy a HID harness, unless you have the relay, fuse, fuse holder and wire laying around.
So you get your set in the mail, and you really wanna install it, your holding your wiring harness wondering how to make the power and ground reach the battery. What you wanna do is simply take your harness and lay it out on your bed, or on the table or whatever. See how there is a section of wire reaches about 3 feet past your relay. simply cut about 2.5 feet of wire out of it, and reconnect the ends with a set of Heat shrink butt connectors, but don't through this wire away. You want to then take that section of wire find the power wires that goto the battery, and splice that wire in with Heat shrink butt connectors, Now either rap that wire length in Electical tape or some good Ol' Wireloom. Run this wire to the battery and attach it to the frame with zip ties. Do Not connect it to the battery yet. Simply mount the relay to the anywhere in the hood area of the quad with a zip-tie. Now clip off the 9006 socket, and connect with the wires on the OEM socket. This needs to be hard wired, so clip your stock socket off, find a ground and a power wire, and connect it accordingly with the wireing harness. Your wiring is done.
Next you need to mount your ballast. By now you should have the Hood and headlight off of your quad. Find a secure area in the frame, on the XENTEC Ballast you will see a tab with a hole in it, simply put a ziptie though it and connect it to the frame area where there is a hole. Them take a second ziptie and go around the actual harness and wrap it around the frame also, connect the ballst to the Harness ends. then you need to mount the ignighters, simply ziptie them to the frame. Ballast are now mounted and connected to the HID harrness. Your almost there. Now Pull out you oem bulbs, and install your new HID bulbs, be sure not to touch these with your bare hands, I wear gloves when I handle them. Now Your ready to connect power, IMPORTANT MAKE SURE YOUR KEY IS OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IT OFF!!!!! Simply put the power wire to the power side of the battery, and the negative to the negative. Recheck all your connections, Start your quad up and turn your headlights on. They need to run for 10 minutes, so your quad needs to run.
Now your done, enjoy your lights like I enjoy Mine. I will put a parts list in a seperate Post so Look down for everything you will need, with links. Thanks for reading, and questions please POST HERE or PM me.
