i run 18-10-9 with a 13 tooth front sprocket and my z has to much low end power the tires just spin out on any loose surface and i only have about 2 1/2 in of ground clearance with a rear skid plate.

If you ride trails, stay with the 20". If you plan on hitting the track then 18"s.

I had 18's on mine and low end was great! I kept my stock gearing though. I bought a 13t front sprocket and was going to change it but after I rode it with 18's and stock gearing I liked it.

Stockboy and jonboy are right though. If you ride trails the 18's will kill your ground clearance. With a skidplate on you have very little clearance and you get hung up on a lot of ruts and roots. If you ride with 4x4's you'll get stuck in things they casually ride over so stick with 20's if you're strictly in the trails.

ya i ride trails but there not like in the woods or anything. The trials by my house are kinda wide open. Its a trail that runs along a little high way. I don't think that grounds clearance will be an issue. Its got some little hill climbs and a few jumps here and there. I was just thinking of going with 18's to make it a little lighter tire and maybe a little more torque with out changing the gearing
thanks for replies guys

You will gain a little more low end torque for the hillclimbs and stuff if you switch to 18's. I enjoyed having small tires in all conditions. The weight savings won't be much and will definitely not be noticeable. If that's the main reason you want to switch then just keep the 20's and switch to a 13t front sprocket. You'll get the same effect while still keeping your ground clearance.

i was also thinking of doing it to make it a little less top heavy to lower it a bit and i think it would look cool with smaller tires haha

It will lower it a tiny bit but you won't notice it much haha...

If you have a XC setup with small 18'' tires in the back it will look extremely weird lol... If you have a stock quad and switch to all MX tires it'll look nice. I wouldn't ride around with giant XC tires up front and small 18's in the rear though :p
