I helped design the nose section and am currently a Manufacturing Engineer on the rear barrel. An amazing aircraft, first ever to have a full composite skin, this skin however is NC filament would around a tool/mandrel. Like grannies yarn but it’s infused with resin and pressure not like the old graphite cloth or fiberglass you lay on a tool by hand. It’s just a matter of time before it sweeps the motorcycle and other industries, the tools and process too expensive for small stuff right now, and head access an issue like for quad frames. Airbus A-350 is right behind, same technology, may the best plastic plane win! Ha!

Very little AL mainly composite and TI -45 freeze test we had issues with the AL contracting a different rate crack the skin since resolved. This test was done in a hanger in FL of all places.

First wing bend static test failed wing joint to body, since resolved. Take a close look at those plastic wings being bent to the sky.

You can see the plastic skin in the filiment wind tool here we put big composite frames in too(not shown) metal where the vertical fin and wings attach, etc….

so would you consider it carbon fiber or plastic? ever one kept saying plastic around the field but i just thought that was a easier way then explain carbon fiber. ATC was asking the test pilots allot of questions about what was inside. there answer? " water, lots of water, and that's all we can say and keep are jobs" lol i found that very amusing

Well the technology is new and Boeing proprietary they don’t want leaking to Airbus. Lets keep it American made altho the Japs, Italians, Russians have thier hands all over this one. What a supply chain mess I think the Big B realizes now.

Both! CFRP – Carbon Fiber Reinforced PLASTIC …is the name of the material, the resin is a thermoset plastic, so carbon fiber strands come out of the NC machine are infused with plastic resin.

Other thing I want to mention about this program is its “paperless”…..there are no 2d drawings, just 3d models. A lot of you have experienced the quad industry aluminum frame and EFI revolution recently, its problems and bought into its development, field test phase if you will. Same thing here it’s been a nightmare compared to what were use to, aluminum skins and drawing’s. Boeing revolutionized the industry; they’re always the fore runner as is BRP/ SUK/YAM/KAWI…Hon slacking imo.

Can’t wait to see how many of you throw your money in the CFR-Plastic frame pot, I give it within five years I think the ones most likely are Can-am/BRP/Bombardier Jets, Kawi Jets, maybe HON jets will be the first and blow all the competition away bout time. I’m telling you a full up CFRP frame would be strong, no gussets, no failures, no maintenance for years and above all lighter than aluminum by at least 1/3 AND since the NC machine bangs them out almost flawless low cost to us…this airplane is guaranteeing no structural inspections for 15 years due to the composites vs. aluminum on a 5-year cycle it’s that reliable. Also the light weight has sold a record high for Boeing over 800 initial orders worth over 250 mil each, fuel efficent engines low ticket prices to us. Rock on Boeing you set the ground work for good ol American technology and talent numero uno in the world! :D

BTW Kawi Industries builds the back rear wing called "horizonal stabilizer". You Kawi owners s/b proud of the tech on your quad.

Bet alot of you guys did not know how much aircraft tech flows into your quad, you read it all over the sites, ac this and that.... braging! How many knew so many Jap and and Can build the very best small business jets in the world and where they get thier quad designs, but none beat Boeing all American baby!....Hmmmm! ...in thier dreams!

The airiel American Tanker refueler to all military fighter/bombers will be built American too, Boeing an American jobs...F### Airbus! Japs, Cans, Italy, Russia, India Idiots you wish! ..you are the biggest book worm non mechanical non practical morons I ever met, screw up morefor half the price of American and **** up more than your worth, don't know the American way only way! Fire em all Boeing! Put smart Americans back to work!

BUMP! TNT vent but the truth lets not let what happen to auto-Detroit happen to Aircraft, it will never happen we are the brains of this world and got the $, you can have Walmart but not Boeing!

You Engineers out here I will retire soon go to school be smart for this country and your children don't let em get the best of the American way they wish they had.

Boeing will come around after seeing on this program how many of these idiot countries screwed up this aircraft and they will go back to all American products/suppliers despite "global marketing and economy BS"

yeah on other aircraft forums the battle between boeing and airbus people have is crazy. i favor bombardier's on flight sim that is. a ultralight is the only plane i'll ever get to own or fly on, so doesn't matter ether way to me

my uncle or something is a aeronautical engineer for boeing...

Im on a a310, a300, 727, 757, 777, md10&11 every day...

The quality, fit and finish and efficiency of the boeing surpass the other a/c on the ramp. The mdd's are a nightmare... And the 777 holds much more cargo AND is 18% more fuel efficitent than a md11
