On my Z400...with the machine off and in first gear, if I pull in the clutch I should be able to roll the machine forward or back, right? Right now it does not....is there something wrong? It rides and drives fine through all the gears. My 400EX does not do this, if I pull the clutch in, while in first gear and the machine is off, it will let me roll the quad forward or back. Are these Z400's a different animal?

Thanks!

Push harder!! haha jk I dont really know if it moves or not really.. im sure it wouldnt be as easy if it were in neutral, if the clutch seems okay when your riding then dont worry about it... where at in s.e. michigan are you? im right near downriver..

It's normal when the bike is cold. Even when it's warm you will feel a little resistance. If it still doesn't roll at all, then you need to adjust your clutch, or adjust your parking brake if you still have it. If you do still have your parking brake, you may want to check into a parking brake block-off. The parking brake is nothing but a pain in the ***.

yeah those parking brakes are famous for that......once the cable gets a kink in it.....but do check the clutch play and the cable

Ok, thanks for the info guys. I'm pretty sure it's not the parking brake and pretty sure the clutch cable is adjusted correctly, but I'll double check!

Thanks!

If the clutch cable is not stretched and adjusted correctly it could be grooving in the clutch basket. My old KTM used to do it when I first got it because I would slip the clutch when I was learning how to ride it. Its easy to check and easy to replace but takes time.
