I'm just wondering some things about a 87 motor. I know 88/89 are the same, and 86 is lots different. What about 87, will they bolt right in a 88/89 frame? are they long rod cranks? and do they have some of the updated items that the 88/89 have? Thanks

Yes, 87 is a long rod.

the 87 had the bridged intake like the 88/89 but the port timing was a little different they will bolt right up to any year "R" . They are long rod motors. the most up to date is the 89 it had some small but better improvements such as clutch thrust bearing instead of the single ball bearing on the push rod and water pump impeller was improved there has been a lot of articles on the motor and chassis differences and troybilt is doing a cross over chart which would be great for "R" owners, especially for those just getting into the honda.
