Went to change the oil and this happened. The Pic is pretty self explanatory. If someone could tell me what the tank is made out of i'm thinking i can weld it back. If it's steel I can mig it otherwise I have to send it out.

See if a magnet sticks to it. If it does it is steel, If not it is alum.

Hope that helps but I am not 100% sure myself.

Id buy a new, larger oil tank. Welding it can work, but imho I wouldnt bother.

Happened to mine too. If you know of a local welder who can TIG weld the aluminum tank, take it there. If not, take it to a local boat shop as they weld on aluminum stuff all the time.

I'm almost glad mine broke because after welding it, it's like 10X more beefy than stock. Haven't had a problem since...

I see this happening way to often...comes from getting the bolt too tight. That bolt doesn't need to be very tight. I can remember the exact tourqe spec something like 10 ft lbs give or take a coulpe lbs. which isn't very tight at all just snug.

It is alluminum i think cast. This happen to me. 2003 and newer tanks are reinforced there.

The factory torque spec is 14 ft/lbs

But you're right it doesn't have to be very tight at all. Mine simply snapped because the torque wrench was set wrong at the time.
