I have 2 cams,a crf 450 from a 02 and a 04 cam.I heard that the 02 was dabomb on 450r.org but i also read the 04 had explosive low end almost insane.I guess both of these cams seem to have a better powerband than the hot cams stg 2 and dont sign off as much up top.Im basically looking for a mx style powwerband for my 05 trx450.Anybody with any firsthand experience? It seems the more research i do i get more opinions.Didnt want the hot cams because its harder on valve train even though its a "drop in"cam.I have a full exhaust system and a fcr carb if it matters.I actually like the 05 cam because its got pretty good lift actually, especially compared to the 06 and up cams.Might just run it until its time for a top end:confused:

:huh I believe you were misinformed. There are some Web cams that are hard on the valve train. But the HC's are not. Get a early HRC, very nice!

Put the 02 in (more top end than the Hotcam II)... But I also agree with Ruf, the Hot cam is not hard on the valves... If you sell both the cams you could get an early HRC cam and be VERY happy...

The 04-06 CRF cam is the same as the 06/07 HRC cam... Sell it as an HRC cam on eBay for max dollar. I wouldn't put that in an 04/05 TRX unless you want allot of bottom end.

Easy solution, you already have both cams, try both and see what YOU prefer. That way you can personally feel the difference between both cams.

I have no experiance with the 02 CRF cam, but I do run the 04 CRF cam in both my 450R's. (Bailygunns is correct, the 04-06 CRF cam is the same as the newer model HRC cam.) I am very happy with the 04 CRF cam, works great every where.

I do not think you would be happy with the early (04/05) HRC cam since you are looking for a mx powerband. That cam is more of a top end cam. When I bought my first 450R, I got the HRC kit with it, I swapped out the HRC cam and installed the 04 CRF cam, much happier with the results. Bottom to mid was much stronger and only slightly weaker on top. Plus the motor revved faster with the 04 CRF cam. When I got my second 450R, it already had the HRC kit installed. Rode it once and I was reminded of how much I hated the early HRC cam. Ended up getting another 04 CRF cam. I am not impressed with the early HRC cam at all, and I even tried it twice.

i have come to the conclussion that i cant go wrong with either cam.ASfter looking at 5000 pages of opinions on 450r.org everybody has their idea of what they prefer. Both will be an upgrade over the stocker.

One thing I have not seen mentioned in this thread, which has EVERYTHING in the world to do with this subject........

WHAT MODEL BIKE !

The 02 cam will create an entirely different power range when installed in an 05 than it will in an 06-up. I run an 02 CRF in my 05, and Im not real sure I like it. I think the HC2 is a better cam for the 05...it has better overrev, and the same amount of bottom end but it has a far harder "hit". The 02 CRF seems to just lack attitude.

Now, in an 06 up, I think the 02 CRF will be a superior MX cam to the HC2. The HC2 turns into a bit more of a top end cam than I like when in these machines, but the 02 CRF gains more attitude when in an 06-up.

Hope this helps.

yes its for a 05.I swear i have seen evrything under the seen,i guess i may just have to run them both to see which i like, who knows i may end up with a hot cam after all.But im leaning towards running the 04 cam first.:D

Theres not going to be much of a difference at all in the 02 and the 04 CRF cam. But If Im not mistaken, they are both close with the 04 having a bit more exhaust lift.

Either way, I have an 02 in my 05 MX quad, and I dont like it. I would trade for an HC 2 in a heartbeat. I do however feel that the 02 CRF makes for a pretty good woods cam in the 05.
