lt80 starter not turning engine

Hi,

When i engage the starter, it sounds like it's just spinning--not contacting the engine or the gears are stripped, if that's possible. Where to start? Should I take off the starter itself and look for problems? Could the solenoid be the problem?

while setting on the 4 wheeler, I would take off the left plate near your ankle that is cover the motor.

that way you can see where the starter s trying to turn the fly wheel. if the fly wheel is not all missed up, I bet it is your starter.

I've never seen the starter gear strip.
I'd say it's the starter.
It's hard to get out. Remove the carb to make it more easy. ;)
