ive started looking into upgrading my front brakes (already did the 450r rear brake swap) and I came across someone who said that they used yfz450 front calipers on their stock spindles/hubs. can anyone here confirm if this is will work?

if nobody knows if this will work, I can try it myself later on when I get a chance. my brother has a banshee with yfz450 front brakes and I can unbolt one of his calipers and see if it will bolt on my 400ex spindle. when I try it will post up the results on if it will work or not.

I am also interested if this statement was true. It would be great if you could try it to see:D

no ive not had a chance to try it yet. my brothers banshee siezed up on him at a gncc race back in april and its been setting in the shed since. he's gonna get it out here soon and start rebuilding it and thats when i'll try the brake swap.

The weak link in the front brake system on a 400ex is the rubber lines. Unless you've swapped them out for ss I would not recommend bothering with caliper swaps. Just the ss lines will make the front brakes work 200% better.

^ I totally agree, I switched to SS lines and although I had a heck of a time bleeding they stop tons better now.

I just did the YFZ brake swap. My brakes have never been this good, even when it was new!

the yfz calipers work directly with the stock ex spindles and hubs....a direct bolt on. its a night and day difference, even with the stock rubber brake lines.

Thanks. Noticeable upgrade over the stock 400 calipers?

I'm using stainless braided lines and stock 400 master cylinder.

Mine came from an 06 but I don't think it matters.
I'm using the stock master cylinder, stainless braided lines and the yfz calipers. No other mods... none needed. Just bolt on, bleed and ride.

Anyone know if i can run the caliper with 10" hipers up front?? is the caliper any taller because it seems like the stock EX caliper is pretty close the the wheel itself, dont want to buy a set of yfz calipers and they not work cause they hit my wheels.

Well I hope not, because i'm running 10" Hipers up front :p

I guess i'll be the guinea pig. If they don't work then the calipers will be up for grabs for one of you guys on here!

Ya let me know for sure definitly looking to upgrade. I figure ill just do some SS lines and YFZ calipers at the same time if theyll fit the hipers.

Come on you telling me that no one is running these with hipers yet. id like to find out before i go and get new pads for the EX calipers cause that would be a waste if im just goona buy yfz ones anyway.

It seems like there's only a couple of guys that have tried this mod in all of history lol, so your chances are low.

I just paid so I should have them in a few days. I will definitely post back in this thread when I get them on. I might get some pictures too.

I'd hold off on the EX pads because this seems like a nice little upgrade for the cost. Most sets on Ebay have pads included to boot.

Im super happy with my SS lines. Once I bled the lines good I can tap the breaks and it stops on command. Lever barely moves a half inch before lock up.

Wonder if its the dual stainless lines witn no divider or just the fact they are stainless.

I got my 2010 YFZ calipers today! Seller took a bit longer than normal to ship them. I didn't get them fully installed/bled, but I did mount a caliper just to see how it fits.

Well it fits like a glove! Honda should have released it this way from the factory. The pads line up perfectly on the rotor and everything. There's even MORE room between the rim and caliper compared to stock. The YFZ calipers have a lower profile on the top.

For the guys that already have the YFZ calipers, do the 400EX banjo bolts fit? The ones on the YFZ's don't have the holes in the banjo bolts like on the 400, it's just a solid bolt.
