The sub in my truck went out on me and I need a replacement. It's an Alpine SWR-1222D Type-R 12" (http://www.al-eds.com/Alpine-SWR-1222D-p16296.html) and I was really happy with it while it lasted, which was a little over two years. I was planning on getting another Type R, but I figured I'd shop around first. My whole system is Alpine so I was looking to stick with them, but if there is something better in the same price range I'd go for it.

Lmao. I assume you want to stay with a 12". Sealed or ported?

Check out the DC lvl 3. $179 shipped and they say it works great sealed or ported.

Dcsoundlab.com

If you wanted to go big you could go with a lvl4xl. But I'm assuming you're limited to space in your truck.

Yeah, looking to stay with a 12". I'm not really sure, I have a sealed box right now but a few of the screws stripped out the particle board so I'm gonna need a new one. I'm not really into rattling windows and stuff, just clean bass that adds depth to my setup. With that said, I'll probably stick with a sealed box.

I edited my post. :p I'd check out DC audio. Very good subs. Maybe check out Audioque or Sundown as well.

Alright, I'll look into it. And I have an '85 Blazer so space isn't an issue haha.

In that case go with a lvl4xl 18".... or 4  Wall off the back. lol

Just my .02, if it was me I would upgrade my amp as well at this point. That amp was probably clipping which blew your sub. Audioque sells quality amps at a very good price.

You can get yourself an AQ1200D for $250 shipped, add 2 SD2.5 12's for $139 each and you have yourself some quality bass.

Can you explain more about the "clipping", whats that mean?

Thats the point at which the amp starts to distort but you can't always hear this kind of thing, especially being a sub.

It's basically when the amp is distorting the signal it's getting from the headunit. This can happen with any amp but it will happen more often with lower quality amps. This is why when you set the gains on your amplifier you should use an O-Scope. Now not many people have access to an O-Scope, or want to shell out $500 for one, so you can use a multi-meter as well but it's not as accurate.

An o-scope shows up wave line, and it should be nice and round. When it starts to flatten out, the amp is clipping.

If you're amp is clipping it can fry your sub, even if the amp is half the rated power your sub is rated at. Clipping is very very bad. That's why both KickStart and I usually tell people asking these questions to get a better quality amplifier. The amp is 3/4's your sub setup. A bad amp with an awesome sub leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth for the subwoofer, because most people don't think the amp plays such a big part.

Yeah I only went with that amp because my cousin gave it to me. I'll probably go see what Ultimate Electonics has since I have a hook-up with them. Maybe I'll put the amp up on eBay just to get some extra cash to put towards a new one.

x2 on the DC level 3 subs!

I had 2 of them and loved them to death....

Heard great things about the AQ amps but never ran them. I ran a Sundown SAZ-1500d on mine and the subs loved it :)

x2. I didn't even notice you said particle board. MDF or Birch for boxes.

It actually is MDF. I just wasn't sure what it's called so I went with particle board. My bad haha.

Still in the market for an amp and sub. I'd like to go with a DC LV3 or SDC2.5 12 for the sub, just don't know what I would power it with. I don't really have a lot of cash to spend so I'm looking for quality at a low price. I like to get everything for under $300.

Or how about this setup?

Rockford Fosgate R500-1 (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17368_Rockford+Fosgate+PRIME+R500-1.html)

Alpine SWR-1243D (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_24187_Alpine+SWR-1243D.html) or Rockford Fosgate P3D412 (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9105_Rockford+Fosgate+Punch+P3D412.html)

So your wanting 1 12"?

Are you going to build a new box? Or use a current box?

If your going to use a current box we need to know the size of it to match a good sub.

Like YFZ is saying, a good amp is very important.

For a $300 price range I personally would go with 1 15" AQ SDC and a used AQ 1200d or sundown 1000 or 1200.

SDC2.5 15" is $160

Get the D4 15 and run the aq1200 at 2 ohms. They put out 870 at 2.

Yeah, one 12" is plenty for me. I'm not sure if I'm gonna get a new box or not. The sealed one I have now is ~0.7 cubic feet. Measures 13x14x11.

The 15" is $184 shipped, so that wouldn't leave me much for an amp. If I could find a used AQ1200, that'd be awesome. I've found a factory refurbished Kenwood for cheap that looks nice.

.7 cubes is tinyyy.

You are going to need a bigger box for alot of subs.

There was just a used AQ1200d on caraudio.com for a reallyyy good deal.

Maybe you should look into used subs and amps for that budget. You can find some good deals on some nice stuff.

I would def build a new box though.
