All this talk of bridge port relieve has me wondering about mine. Aren't the oil holes in the piston suppose to take care of this area?

It's an expected part of the job when you bore and hone the cylinder. The bridge will accumulate it's heat capacity quickly because of the amount of exposure to hot exhaust gas to it's surface area. The material will expand under these conditions and if not relieved may/will bulge into the piston, closing the interference gap and causing seizure.
