View Full Version : 99-04 Gaskets same as the 05-09s?

I'm in the process of reassembling my motor and I've hit a small snag. I need all new gaskets for my engine, and I have an 89mm piston. So if I want to get both top and bottom end, it's going to be $70.13 for the top, and $30.35 for the bottom. That's over $100 for freakin' gaskets.

However, I found Cometic top and bottom end gasket set for $50.13. It includes everything I need, and it's for an 89mm. The only problem is that it is listed for an '05-'09 model. Mine is an '99. I know they added reverse in '05, but did the gasket shape and design change?

If possible, I could use an answer today so I can get this order underway.

Thanks
/Jake

C'mon anyone? I know the top ends are identical, do the cases line up?

Did they reshape the cases to accomidate reverse in '05?

I just rebuilt a 2005 400ex and mistakenly ordered the 99-04 gasket set from Cometic. The good news for you is that the only gasket that won't work is the center case gasket. The rest fit just fine. The difference is due to the countershaft used to add reverse on the newer models. I had to go to Honda and buy the correct center case gasket for $14. Not sure how much of a hurry you are in but I still have the 99-04 center case gasket and I'd be happy to give it to you. I think it has one small tear from unpacking but it would be no problem to just add a small amount of rtv in the area. I'm pretty sure it's on the top anyway so it probably wouldn't leak even if you didn't rtv it. Let me know if you would like it.

Thank you! This is the exact sort of answer I need. I am not splitting the cases for this build, so it should not be an issue for me to get the '05+ gasket set.

Thanks for the help :macho
