Ok, im trying to sell this old ATC 200S ( i think) 3 wheeler i got so i can get a 250R. I got to sell i for atleast $500 but it dont run. Its not getting spark and im pretty sure it has something to do with the mag/stator. When i took the side cover off, there was a lil bit of oil in there. Could this oil be getting on the magnets and weaken the spark or possibly make it not spark at all? Thanks

how long have you had it?

i don't think that there is any way that oil can get up there to the CDI cover,,,could it be the carbon deposit stuff has drawn damp and looks like oil?

how long has it been since it has run?

i have a 84 ATC200S that i recently worked on cause it kept wet fouling plugs,,,

their is a seal and large 0-ring behind the housing that your stator assembly mounts too, i had too replace one i had years ago, was your pull rope oily?

i dont have a tow rope. i dont know exactly what model it is but i know its a 200 and its not a 200X.

Do you have to split the cases to replace the seal and o-ring? I hope not.

Not the CDI, the Magneto/stator.

Thanks for the info guys.

check the cc's to see if it's a 185 or 200, you don't have too split the cases, just remove flywheel, the housing that the stator mounts too remove it, you will see a large 0-ring behind the housing, and a seal where the crank comes thru

that's a 200x motor, they were the only ones with a kick starter, does it have a manual clutch

ok, heres the story.... this guy that works for my dad owed him $150. Well he gave us three wheeler even for the $150. We the only reason we took it was to restore it cuz itwas nasty looking. Well as soon as we got it, i tore it completly dwn to the frame to start cleaning her up and replacing stuff. We never herd it run but the dude we got it from said it always started up for him.

heres some more pic, i think its an 86'. Know of a website that i can enter in the serial number to find out what model it is?

i just noticed from the pic's again, that is a 200x, the S models had didn't use forks like that, get it running and you should do Good selling it, the 200x was awesome back then, the motors were black on them has someone stripped it

BadA$$440
01-30-2003, 04:34 PM
yes the engine WAS black. I sand blasted the engine to bear metal. I thought it looked more ''cleaner''. And i didnt want to paint it again cuz i know paint builds up heat on air cooled engine.

So there is no oil suppose to be in the magneto? I'll take it apart tomorrow and show you what im talking about.

the 200x is different from the S, i think there is just a seal or rubber grommet too keep the oil out, if there's a honda shop near you look at there service manual, i don't think it's a 86 model, i believe they had a 6 speed and a square tube frame, but it's still worth a lot more than you have in it

if i get it running good, how much you think i can get for it?

see if you can find OEM gas tank "salvage yard" and you would be suprised, where i live 600+, depending on how good it runs and looks when your done, my neighbor paid 1000 last year for a nice 86 200x

I'm positive that that's an '83-'85 ATC 200x. You might want to check out www.3wheelerworld.com for help on this one. The guys on that site know three wheelers like no others. There's a link on the site to the message board or just go here: www.3wheelerworldforums.com .

It is a 200X, and it's not an '86, either. I'm with TORO, most likely an '83 or '84. They sure were fun rides... brings back memories of the old days...

Man,you guys must not know bout 4smokes.......

4smoeks have a wet magneto, oil is supposed to be in there, unless it was a 2smoke,then oil shouldn't be in there.....

SoJess, its OK,oil is supposed to be in there,it ain't gonna blow up,its just a hunker, thats why it ain't getting spark, get a new magneto or soemthing, but the oil ain't the problem

i still have a service manual from the ATC'S, i was riding them from day one till a couple years ago, why would they have a seal too keep oil out if the mag was supposed too be WET?
