Rear shock length 86 compared to 88-89??

Well I think I made an oops! I purchsed a used shock and I think it's from an newer R. I'm doing the 450R swing arm swap and my 86 shock is at the machine shop with the 450R linkage so I have no way to tell if I have a newer length shock.

Can someone measure their 86 shco or if you have a later 88-89 shock. Just need somethign to see if my headache is any bigger than it already is!!

88-89 shocks are shorter then 86-87

I know..that's why i need a measurement to see if I purchased a shorter or longer one.

i have an 87 i can measure but i wont be able to get it to it till tomorrow.

i believe its 86 longest, 87 shorter, 88-89 shortest

my 86 shock is the same eye to eye as the one i was told was an 89 other than the 89 shock body beeing an inch longer there the same unless its not an 89 ?

well i just got an 86 shock back from gtt and it was longer then my 87. When i searched on here I found several threads that stated the 88-89 where shorter

Don't know if it helps, but the Elka I ordered directly from Elka for my 86 was 16 1/8" eye to eye. I never compared it to stock to know if it was the same, but I would guess it was pretty close.

Thanks for the measurement. I noticed on the top of the shock it says 88 250R. it's a PEP shock so well see how it measures compared to your Elka.

Just eyeballing it, it appears it will work just fine with the 450R swing arm. We'll see i guess!!
