winch on a 400ex???

Has anyone done this? How good does it work?

This thought just crossed my mind. I know it sounds stupid, but I mostly trail ride and after a few times of riding by myself on a long trail and coming across a water hole not knowing how deep it is until I drive through it. Then getting stuck with nobody there to help. I actually got stuck real bad once on a trail by myself and couldn't get it out. luckily somebody came by with a 4x4 and pushed me out. So it seems like a winch would suit the problem. Get stuck, just hook it to a tree and winch it out.

Any thoughts?

Oops, did some searching and found some nice info.

But I still do have a question, whould it be ok for the winch to get wet??

or is that a stupid question? :eek:

and to add, Anybody have a link to probably the cheapest winch that would work good?

Sorry but I kinda laughed... think about the mud boggers who have winches and such. The motor is sealed on them.
