Hey guys i'm trying to decide between the stage 2 and stage 3 Hotcams for my motor. Is there anyone on here that has run both in the 400, and can comment on the different power characteristics?

I am going to be upgrading from a HRC cam, so I don't know if the stage 2 will be much of a difference since the cam specs are not far off. I also don't want to get the stage 3 if it compromises too much low to mid power for top end.

Here are the specs for the cams:

HRC................. .350, .339, 254, 256

Hotcams stage 2: .354, .350, 254, 248.5

Hotcams stage 3: .358, .354, 262, 257

I have run the stage 2 and now have the stage 3 in my 440 stroker. Get the stage 3. The stage 2 had good low to mid power but after that it would "fall on its face". I put the stage 3 in and wow. Great power from idle to redline. Also, the stage 2 held it back so much on the top end it wouldnt even hit the stock rev limit in 5th gear. I didnt notice any lowend power loss going to the stage 3. If you have any other questions about it let me know. I got it dyno tuned when I put the stage 3 in and it made 46hp.

Hey thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it :)

I thought the Stage 2 cam's exhaust duration of 248.5 was a bit odd compared to the HRC. I bet that gives it better low end but is why drew416ex said it was running out of breath up top.

Definetely go with the stage 3... the stage 2 like he says falls on his face after 3rd gear it seems...

With a stroker motor stage 3 all the way. My friend had a 440 stroker and witht eh stage 3 cam like mentioned in other post it pulled from idle to redline with easy. Ran like a champ! For a regular 440 though I would say stage 2. Your using a 452 stroker... that HRC cam is killin ya

stage 3 all the way its much better on the top end and you'll still have more than enough torque.i'll never go back to a stage 2 hotcam.

just realized you had a stroker motor. Id definitely go with a stage 3 or something equivalent.
