DS650 is the only way to go for a big guy. And they're awesome machines so go for it. I'd get an 05 or newer BajaX model and you'll be good to go.

A friend of mine is your size and he likes the raptor 700.

I'm around 6' ~250lbs and I love my 450R. Feels extremely comfortable to me, I've ridden a DS and it just felt massive.

DS650.

They ride like a dream, handle decently, and if you're a big guy, you can still throw it around.

They're big, and have a nice broad torque range. Not quite as fast as the 450's, but with a few mods can be, and even more.

yea and i think the ds has a 6000rpm rev limiter:huh i wouldnt buy one. too big IMO. i'd look into a raptor 700 if i were you. or a honda 700xx

Definitely go with a DS650 or Raptor 700.

I'm 6 foot 1 or 2, about 225 lbs (but on a diet/workout routine right now, so probably less), and my 450 feels awesome, but I think once you get past the 250lb limit, a big-bore sport quad is best.

i'm with everyone else on this. ds650 or 700 raptor

id go with a kfx 700, best big guy quad out there, and they make some serious power with the right mods

PaRedneckRiders

but the kfx700 is auto
He said he cant ride anything with an auto lol

With that said i would go with a ds650 or mayb a 700 raptor

I forgot about them. Yeah, they make some serious torque and they're comfortable for big guys. But auto.

On a side note to the OP, my father is the same weight as you, and has no problems on his banshee as far as comfort. He didn't feel to comfortable on my 400ex though.

I'm 260 and feel comfortable on pretty much any adult bike. lol.

no matter what you buy you will need to get the shocks worked on or buy aftermarket.

DS650 all the way. people rag on them all the time, and they are pretty ugly, but you wont need any suspension work for a while, they ride great, and are as comfortable as a new utility bike. its also one of the easiest bikes to realiably get to 70hp. they are practically bulletproof. it will last you a very long time if you maintain it right.

Hondamaster5505

I don't think DS650's are ugly.. I actually think they're pretty hot looking to be honest.

Great bikes.

Oh, and about having to get suspension worked on, my dad is the same weight, and doesn't have a problem with the stock banshee suspension. (Which is horrendous) And he does little jumps, and regular riding. Never bottomed it.

Im 6'4 337 right now. In 05 when I bought my TRX450R I was 6'4 420. Now Im riding still riding the 450R and bought a 250R. If you can ride you will keep up just fine.

thanks alot everyone for the help the ds650 sounds like the bike for me but they are no were to be found in my area and the ones i have seen are well into the 3k price range. i am trying to stay in the 2500 range.

i ride a friends banshee all the time and it feels very good, but i dont like all the tinkering you have to do to them.

450r honda feels nice havn't rode one just sat on one. feels wide/solid for my fat ***

also the polaris predator feels good but i here they like to break down

going to check out a 660 raptor this weekend i am sure it will be way to narrow for me

thanks again everyone!

I'd stay away from any polaris product if I were you. the 660 is pretty good just don't think of buying an 01 the tranny's are junk. 02 to 05 should be good. they are kind of narrow but some spacers and yfz450 shocks and you won't have a problem

If I were you I would stay away from the 660. Every 660 I've ridden has shaken the hell out of me. If you're patient you can get 700's for around $3,000 and I don't think a ds650 would be too expensive if you could find one. Where are you located? If we know where you are someone on here might be able to help you out.

Awesome quad! Don't listen to the reviews, with shocks and tires it is a bad *** machine.

Definitely big bore, my brother is a hefty dude and he had a Raptor 660, it was the only bike that ever pulled his weight around without issue because it would lug all day long on hills. A 450 would work but you would probably have to work it a little harder, the big bores are the way to go if you aren't scrawny because too much is just enough. I would say Raptor 700, can be found at a decent price.

Sweet dude, that's a great price on a great machine! Those Honda's are sweet machines and comfy for us big guys as well.(I'm 6'6" 285)

I would go with the raptor 700 over the 700XX in my opinion..

the 700XX is a larger machine, but I they really aren't all that fast. I seen a skinny kid riding one once, had it pinned, and it looked real sluggish.

The raptor 700's have tons of torque and power.

Oh, and the 700XX's like to be rev'd out, not as much low end "grunt" as the raptor.

I still think the DS650 would be the best choice, haha.

The 700xx would be a great machine too. They just have to be ridden like a quad with independent rear suspension. It's a completely different riding style that most of these sport quad guys just dont understand. If you can get one at that price I would say go for it.

Yeah, which doesn't make it as good as a sport quad. If you want IRS and something that isn't that sporty, he might as well get a big 800 utility.

I like the Outlaw 525IRS more then the 700XX to be honest. Still has awesome IRS clearance, but actually handles pretty good thanks to the stiffer sway bars and everything. They pull pretty hard with the big 3, and the old plastic style, felt pretty big. (Perfect for a big guy)

KTM power with a decent handling IRS platform.

I mean, the DS650, Raptor 700, 700XX, and Outlaw 525 would ALL suit him pretty well. The 700XX just isn't as sporty as the others.

i dont know what 700XX you saw but it musta had problems. A buddy we ride with has one and its a screamer. If i ever go strictly woods riding i will have one. Feels like a good runnin 450R with IRS to be

Could be, who knows. I just don't like it's weight, it's looks, or anything about it. I think Honda should have took more time with it to make it a raptors killer that's lightweight. Or offer a straight axle version.

People say you don't feel the extra weight, but it IS there. And if you wreck it, or hit a big jump, you WILL notice it. lol.

Also forgot to add, the Outlaw has IRS and is just as fast, yet has the same dry weight as the raptor.

I think you read too much.

Back on topic, I'f you're going the route of a Raptor, save your money and swing for the 700. It's just a better quad stock for stock. And Big Bore is the way to go for a big guy.

Eh.. every 660 I rode, I wasn't too impressed with.

They have that "sit on top" feeling (Not good for us big guys), and are pretty ill-handling. (High center of gravity + 2in narrower then a stock 400ex= bad) And they have tons of torque, but really aren't that fast. (A 700, or a 450, will outrun one easily.)

I would go for the 700xx over a 660 any day.

They can be made to handle good, but they still have the on-top feel, and it would take a lot of money.

Don't get a 660.

Stick with the original ideas. Either a 700 raptor, ds650, outlaw, or 700xx (if you like them)

well bud. i was gonna say a KFX700 our 3 butterballs in the group ride the piss out of them, but since you dont want an auto sport, Im suggesting the Raptor 700 or a honda 700xx, im 17 and around 5'8 5'9 143, and all the yfz 450 feels perfect to me, But If i were you id go with the grizzly 660 or 700, all the beauty of the raptor but with IRS,POWER steering,4X4, and top speed of 73 STOCK!

i will get photos up when i remove all the lame stickers and get her painted all up! thanks for all the help guys

Easy does it with the paint.;)

There's not a whole lot you can do with a stock shock. I'm not sure how many adjustments a Rappy shock has, but you can crank on the preload, (puting more pressure on the spring) Stiffen up the compression (The little screw at the top of the shock between the shock body and the reservoir. Turn it right for hard, and left for soft, should have arrows) And you can speed up the rebound if necessary. (This will be at the bottom of the shock. Turn right for faster rebound and left of slower rebound, Also should have arrows) Good luck.:blah:
